Carefully, Jaycy sat in the archives area, reading over old messages long taken from the ancient boards to make way for the new ones. The visit last night had sparked a desire in her... an intense need to dig through these old posts, to see some of the history of the Duel of Swords. She leafed through several messages, and stopped a moment, reading over
Xy's challenge to Billy Ray for the 5th ring.... with a grin she noted one of his reasons, Honor for the Slashers, of which she, in her own way, considered herself an unofficial member now... the Dashin' Slashers. Chuckling silently, the gypsy made a note to bug Rix about a jacket before moving to the next stack of notes.
With a smile, she noted the number of friendly challenges... so many without being dragged through the mud. A lil' more than a year ago, and things seemed so different. She could only hope her soon-to-be issued challenge would be seen as a challenge of honor and respect, and wouldn't be dragged through the mud. Arching a brow, she came upon Tarl's notice of challenge to Rand. With a sigh, she knew she wasn't able to read of the "unique history"
of the third, at least nothing but what had been placed in the historical archives.
Grinning, she read of the first DoS auction she knew of... and remembered the second. With a slight nod to herself, she thought perhaps it was time to have another such auction. Continuing on, her brow arched once more as she noticed the number of slashes and disengages in a challenge match... now that was odd. At least to her... but she smiled, nodding approval, believing at the right time, no move is worse than another.
Needing to read more, she continued on....

Blinking, she came across a familiar name... Iain Ryan MacKenzie. Reading over the letter to the patrons of DoS, she arched a brow yet again, reading of the Amethyst Ring. Amazed, she re-read it... then read the responses. Now this was a surprising thing... but she wondered what happened to this group, to this ring. Another mental note was written...
to write to Iain about this group. Putting his letter aside, she allowed herself a slight wince as her arm shifted before continuing once more, taking up the next pile of notes.
Blinking, she read of Luthien's DeathMatch, for the continuation of DoS. She had never known about it before, and dug deeper, trying to find more information on it. Blinking, she came across another note. "Rad was a member of HDT?" she thought. My, this lil' adventure was just full of surprises. "Morgan vs. Oakenshield IV?" Shaking her head, she grinned. What a shame to have missed that... no ear biting indeed.
Amazed, she read over the records of the marathon night of defense by Billy Ray... first Rad, then Rix, then G fell. Wow. Gods, only Billy Ray. And no doubt he was so arrogant.... Jaycy just smiled and shook her head, moving on. She just grinned in response to seeing the results of a Jeff/Ellisa match, where the lady defended her ring, winning with a slash. "Team Slasher... heh. I wish I had been a part of that." Despite recent events, Jaycy
couldn't help but smile as she read of so many things she had missed.
Maybe she was odd, but as she read more and more of the history of DoS, through both Turi's reports and through the old messages... she was addicted. She had to keep going... keep learning.
And so she did....

She needed a break. There were still piles of messages to read, and she still hadn't made her own personal trip down memory lane yet. Shaking her head, she reached out for a blank sheet, and finding a pen, she began to write...
Hello.
Since I can't talk, I needed to find some way to express myself... and I guess this will haveta do. I hate to sound rude, but I hope I won't be doing this for long. I never was good at writing things down, y'see... it was always my spoken word that was important. But now I see where I went wrong. Since I have no voice anymore, I need something to do. I've been thinking a lot lately... not like there's much else I can do. I've been reading, too.
There are quite a few things I missed in the Duel of Swords, and I'm sorry for that. I've seen posts from when Drake was a swordswoman, I've seen the notice of when Dal challenged Ath for Overlord... and these things made me think. I haven't been here long, and I missed so many things... but what I can relate are things I was glad to have witnessed or been a part of. The Pink Boxer Girls... one of my first goals here in DoS, to join them. Of
course, all I had to do was duel officially in front of Prin. Heh, for some reason, tho, it was easier said than done... she was never around when I was. But I finally did it, and I have my boxers to this day. I'll need to remember to flash them the next time I'm in the Arena. Heh... then there was the auction.. apparently it was the second one, because in my reading this morning I found notes of another one. We should try that again.
I remember thinking I'd never make warlady... it's been something I've tried for a long time. And now I have it. Amazing. And the challenge... gods, all I can do is pray I'm redy for it. I won't delay it simply because of a few broken bones. Heh, I know that sounds horrible and stupid, but I seek to duel because of something I firmly believe, and I refuse to hold back those beliefs because of a small handicap I can overcome. Ah well. I have to
try, as stupid as I may be for doing so.
Taking this time to look back, I find I've made a lot of friends here, as well has having many disagreements. But that's what family is about, isn't it? Dealing with each other. That's what DoS is... a family. For better or worse, that's what we are. I just wish we could all get along sometimes, y'know? I can understand about people not liking each other, but to fling petty insults? Where does it get us, honestly? Nowhere. All I can do is
hope people remember that...
Ah well. Maybe I'll write summore later, maybe not. Thanks for "listening."
-= Jaycy
Sighing softly, Jaycy clumsily folded the paper and slipped it into a pocket, to take home and put away, only feeling a little better.
Slumping back into the chair, the gypsy woman slowly fell into a fitful slumber, surrounded by the mass of paper waiting for her...
