Why?

Why?

Roland had already asked himself that same question tons of times that night. Why should he care what the community's current status was. Why should he care about those self-centered, high and mighty members of the dueling society. Why should he even bother playing a game they have long won.

He couldn't change anything.

Why was everything he attempted silly, or seen as something someone else could do better? Why did he even bother? People weren't going to catch the hint, or take the time to listen. No one was taking the examples, things were going to all hell. As it had been in the past.

Pure love for the duel prevented him from retiring at this moment. Certainly he could do without most of the community at large. He was in a bind, most deffinately.

Some people claimed he was among the more honorable and worthy duelers at this point and time. Deffinately mislead, blind, or just plain looking to advance their social standings. Though, by backing up someone like himself, he wondered how many were doing just that.

Sixth place, one defense, and one gimme. Not impressive, deffinately not something someone as serious in the duels can take pride in.

Then again, by informing and constantly reminding everyone that he had so in so many peer wins, or that he had defeated so in so in each duel. Fact or naught, it would be gloating. And as far as Roland was concerned, anyone who needed to state their personal record to someone was as insecure as a million dollar bounty.

That brought along another thought. The false appearances that drifted around the dueling halls were staggering. The things people don't know about one another. His opinions of many, many duelers had dropped because of it. Though he tried not to let it show, it wasn't becoming and certainly not the politiest way to go about making friends. If that is what you could call them, he doubted any of them noticed him much.

Roland sighed, he liked it so much more when he was the relatively innocent mercenary, as far as the duels went. Now, though. Not more than half a year later, everything had changed. Back then, he could slug out eight to ten duels a night. Now, he could barely duel two in a row before his dueling hand began shaking. He still hadn't figured out the reason behind that.

He sighed again, watching G'nort as his newest lady-friend depart. Leaving him alone with his thoughts...

...and the rings.
