It was with a frown that Joel wore on his face as he sat in Jaycy's office. The gypsy was still gone, and he didn't even know if she would be back in time for her challenge. He had been handling her correspondence since she had disappeared Monday afternoon, and this latest note from Evan had said he would try to make the match Friday ... which was
tomorrow. And still no Jaycy.
Joel didn't know much of these challenge matches, but he knew it must have been something important, as Jaycy's original letter had been very official... which wasn't the format she used for business unless it was necessary. He had to find the answers... to know what to do.
With a nervous glance around, he stood and made his way to the bookshelves, seeking Jaycy's official rules book, which contained at the least basic rules for TDL, TTBL, DoS, and DoF. He knew she worked there, and would have copies of the way things were done there... perhaps he could find the answer he sought. He didn't like going through Jaycy's things, but he had to, at least for now, to find out what was needed.
Finding the book, he went back to her desk and sat, slowly reading through the various rules and notes and papers... finally coming upon the DoS rules, in the very back. Reading through them, he read what a challenge was, and how very important it was indeed. Frowning in thought, he wasn't sure of what was needed, until he remembered something. The letter! Jaycy had mentioned something about a second... a Lord of Honor... colors... but what did
they mean? What were they?
The more he read, the more he understood. Among the papers were some on House Dragoon-Talanador, including basic info, roster, etc. He was beginning to understand the meaning of "colors" and he knew what her own family colors were. So that was easy... but Lord of Honor and second? Who would they be? He didn't know, wouldn't know unless Jaycy told him, so he decided to concentrate on what he knew...

Joel was still frowning as he made his way toward the gypsy's room. He knew her well enough to know she would want something.... special to wear for this challenge. Shaking his head in dismay, he mumbled something about females needing way too much to wear.
Joel made his way, first into the empty bedroom, then to the wardrobe. He could only hope he would find something appropriate. But then, what was appropriate? He frowned thoughtfully as he looked through the various outfits. No, nothing would do. Drannit, he'd have to have something made. But then again, did he really expect anything involving Jaycy to be simple? Heh... if he did, he was either blind, or a fool. Chuckling softly at his
thoughts, he made his way from her bedroom, and down to the first floor.
Once there, he went to a small room the gypsy didn't even know about... in her own home. It was good to have a few secrets, and he had quite a few. One of those was his own magickal ability... it wasn't that he was trying to hide it from her, it had just never come up. Especially not since she had lost her magick... the poor woman. She had lost so much lately. He supposed this was the least he could do.
He rummaged about the room, looking for the right materials... and as he found each piece, he laid them out on a small table in the center. Finally, everything he could think of gathered and ready, he sat in the chair before the materials, and began to relax... and concentrate.

Several hours later, Joel opened his eyes and let escape a weary sigh. It had been taxing, but the outfit was done. Now on the table, instead of the raw goods, lay a new outfit, perfectly done. Joel didn't have much magick, but what he *did* have, he knew how to use to its fullest, and how to control it. With a soft, gentle smile, he looked over the newly created dress.
It was a lovely silk gypsy outfit, of the kind she wore to work, with a few slight changes. He had sewn the outfit together by hand, and used his magick to finish the detailing. For one, the midnight blue skirt was slightly shorter than the norm, and it would reach a little past her knees... allowing her the freedom of movement needed for a duel, yet it would wrap around her torso and hips for a decidedly feminine look. A soft shimmer of deep
green and silver danced over the midnight silk, almost as if it were a background of stars seen through a forested nighttime sky. It twinkled softly as his gaze passed over it, and he nodded his approval at that piece.
The top was two pieces... one a soft silver chemise, to be worn off the shoulder, accentuating her upper body. Down the billowing sleeves, it shimmered a faint bluish-green. The bodice that accompanied it was of forest green silk, and the detailing was small roses, embroidered, those roses a deep blue. *He* liked it... he could only hope Jaycy did too.
Carefully, he took the dress back to the gypsy's room. Grinning to himself, he hung it up and placed it right where Jaycy would find it. Thinking his work done, he stopped a moment, looking to see if anything needed cleaning. Blinking, his appraising gaze stopped on Jaycy's short sword... the YinBlade. He didn't think she'd be able to use it... not with her arm like it was. He wasn't sure, but he didn't want to take the chance. Hrm... what
else could she use? Oh! What about a rapier? They were light, and she should be able to handle that one-handed.
He moved swiftly from her room once more, back to the first floor. Gods, he was going to complain about all these stairs when Jaycy got back! But she wasn't yet, so he might as well get this done. He moved to the fourth door on the hall and murmured the phrase that unlocked the room. Moving in, he looked around at Jaycy's weapons collection. Finally, he found it. Her rapier. He still couldn't understand how she had gotten such a collection...
but he knew she had been adopted into several well-to-do families, so he could only guess that was her source. She did love weaponry.
He moved to the blade and took it carefully from the wall, it shining as he turned it over in the light. It was a light blade, and one she no doubt knew how to use. This should serve nicely. He took it from the room and locked the door, then went back to the secret room. Grinning, he searched for the ribbon, and finding the right colors, he set to work. He took the silk ribbon, first of silver, and cut off a bit, winding it through the
decorative hilt. He left a bit of the edge hanging, and it flowed down toward the blade. Taking next the forest green ribbon, he repeated the action, then finally the silken midnight blue ribbon.
"There."
Putting away the used things, he took the rapier, properly sheathed up to her room, and placed it beside YinBlade. Good, everything was ready. With a last look at the blade, in approval, Joel wearily made his way out for the last time, and went home, to sleep.
