Avery sat in the night, huddled around Firestar the opal to give him warmth. It was a brisk night, and having none to talk to made it even colder. It was to his surprise that he saw the people walking down the road. He had made no atempt to hide his presence, and so it was only moments before the confrontantion came. With luck though he recognized these people. Fair travlers from Rhydin.
Blade, have you heard the news of the arena? It took only a brief second to fill him in on the overlord challenge.
Well i must say this is interesting. Avery din't know how much to believe in all this. After all rumors did spread fast and wild like many of the flowers. It didn' tmatter though, he wanted to get some word back. He asked one of the men to take down a message to pin to the corkboard for him.
It seems i will never be able to leave the fight behind eh?... he left his short message and then bid the men farewell as they took off down the road. his only thought being.... this is going to pick some things up....smiling..... and i wont have to be there to argue it.
To the DoS,
I must say i know not of anything that is going on. I have heard of brief stories from travlers though. This bit about the overlord is interesting to say the least. For my own two cents, as much as most of you will hate it is this. It would be a shame for Dalamar to lose his crown in this manner. An outright crime. But a crime that i believe was done before. I was on the council that decided Warlord Clutch's fate. He too missed his match. He was
found guilty. The reason why?.... Because he failed to show. That was the reason. The reason why 6 of the barons voted the way they did. Becasue he failed to show at the proper time. The reason why Dalamar himself voted him guilty. It was not because of the reason he missed it. It was because he missed it. Now i know not why Dal missed this match, but if the council wants any integrity to be left within it, it will vote him guilty. Like they did
before in the past. Dal will understand. For he was the one that washed his hands after the judgement. There is no reason why he should not be stripped. Those were the words spoken by so many from long ago. Well here those words again.

Avery and others who question the deal of Dal not showing,
There seems to be some repitition of comparing Dal's failure to arrive at teh appointed time with that of Clutch and Darkness's failures.
Fact #1: Clutch failed to arrive at his appointed time for a simple misunderstanding about the time of the match, which is why he arrived an hour late. No other excuse.
Fact #2: Darkness had two failures. First was because he didn't respond in a timely manner, and the judgement was that the match be refought. Acceptable.
Second was because he didn't show for several days after the scheduled match between him, Tom, and myself. From my understanding of that entire deal, no reasons were given other than "He couldn't make it".
Fact #3: Dalamar failed to show at his match because his Father passed on.
From these facts, can you really compare Dalamars failure to show anything similar to Darkness or Clutches? I think the reasonings are rather different in the extreme.
Thank you for listening.

G'nort, I don't see any difference at all. Clutch was stripped despite the fact that evidence was presented that the Baron had actually misposted the time. Darkness did not explain himself, true. But that really doesn't make a difference. Either the past decsions were right, in which case the precedent should be followed, or they were wrong. Any decision not allowing a rematch at least would be a definite break of precedent, and would make me
wonder at the motives of the Council.
It seems to me that the decision is fairly obvious. A rematch, or strip Dalamar. I don't think that the business of stripping Dalamar is very attractive or desireable, so I would tend to favor a rematch, myself. However, sometimes the unattractive, undesirable solutions need, at least, to be considered.

Percival Marchand de Clermont, take my comment with a grain of salt as it were, but I shall sum up your errors in one statement.
It is not simply a matter of yes or no, there is in fact a grey area.

There is a grey area, yes. A very large one. Right where the idea of sportsmanship and competition used to be. We have become so interested in politics and being on the winning side that we rarely consider the right thing to do anymore. At times I have been as guilty as anyone else. But I would like to see that change.

Percival.
Your Grace, I, meself, didst inquire of the Warlord Clutch in the dueling house his reason for missing his challenge. He stated his confusion about the Rhydin clock to me that very eve. To the best of my recollection and from the Warlord's own comment, I dinna think t'was any confusion involved in the missive upon the corkboard with regard to the time for the duel.
Humbly,
Jona.

Percy,
I was the senior official available that night after Clo left and supported both his and Jaycy's decision to send the matter to the Council. It was I who reviewed the notice from Roland sent via a mailing that clearly stated the time was by the eastern reckoning.

Jesse,
Lad, that is the crudest remark that I have ever seen come from your pen to date. Frankly, he might be a gentleman who doesn't speak of those things. It has nothing to do with the matter at hand, now, stop arguing like a weak willed woman and stay on the subject, eh?

I believe a difference can be established between Clutch's missing of the match and Dalamar's. It's really quite an obvious one.
Clutch was challenging for a title, not defending.
Therefore, I believe that cannot be considered a precedence in conjunction to Dalamar's forfeit. The situation was the same, yet other factors were not.
Plus, on other occasions when a title holder has missed their set challenge times, they were allowed to reschedule. Situations like that are more suitable to act as precedence rather than the one involving Clutch.
Perhaps this isn't the best thread to voice my opinion of that, but at least it's now out for everyone to look at and consider.
