Leave of absence... (Kalamere)

Post by DoS Archive » Sat Sep 04, 2004 10:04 pm

Duelists,

It has been some years since first I entered the rings of DoS. Yet, despite the departure of practically all the duelists I knew in those days and a multitude of changes in the standards of the sport, it is not until recently that I've come to believe the present to be so much different from the past. It is likely that I have simply been blind to this difference, perhaps even purposefully so.

Today it seems duelists believe justice and honor are served by following what is written into the rules. It was not always as such, though I find myself unable to indicate when such a change took place. I know that it was not as such when first I came to this place. The debates centered on higher standards, the concept of honor was what a man (or woman) will do above and beyond the base standard of rules.

In those times I formed several of my own ideals as to what honor demands. These very ideals which I thought to uphold honor have instead brought recent condemnation of dishonor as they do not fit into today's view of the concept. Yet, here I remain, holding both myself and the Overlord to these outdated ideals. It cannot continue.

For myself, I shall be taking a prolonged leave of absence. I hope to return in late winter or early spring after rethinking my place in today's arena. Please do not take my words here as insult. Things are simply different, not necessarily worse. This time away will allow me to better examine my own situation, it is not a bitter retirement or a condemnation of those who remain.

As to the Overlord: If I find myself now needing to rethink whether I will continue to follow these ideals, I certainly cannot hold another to them. As such, I release him from his oath. It is fitting that in a society which seeks to follow the letter of the rule and nothing more, that the Overlord be free to do the same.

Farewell for now,

~ Kalamere Ar'Din...
Twice Overlord, Thrice Baron

ps: This letter is informative only. I depart from RhyDin this afternoon and shall not be back anytime soon, so please do not expect me to see any response to this missive. If you do wish to reach me however, I've left a forwarding address with the RhyDin postal authority.

::clasps his hand to his mouth in mock dispair:: Gods!! You mean, the Golden Age is over!? Gah! Quick! Someone go find the Honor Police!

::shakes his head, sarcasm dripping, this time quite sad, wailing:: It all just happened so fast.....

::smirks, tacking up a hastily written note::

There. Kal said it...now it's official. We truly are going to down the drain. You'll all excuse me while I go perform the final rights for DoS.

Aerenth Artides
More Common then Common

::stalks off, shaking his head in disgust:: ::melodramatically:: We're all Doomed.....

The commoner comes upon Kalamere's missive, she quirks a wry smile as she wanders off to pen a private missive.

::approaches the board, reads the missive by Kalamere, taking special interest in the paragraph "releasing Dalamar from his oath" and reflects on the timing::. Hmmm, merhaps now would be a good time to speak with Baron Seamus concerning the details of his upcoming match. ::turns from the board and heads off in the opposite direction while thinking that the Plot has surely thickened::
