Marit strolled down one of the brick streets in Dragonia, stopping in shops here and there. She had a certain wedding dress in mind and would probably hire a seamstress to make it, but she liked getting ideas. She stopped and stared at the sign above her which boasted "The Language Center".
She approached the clerk who glanced up with a welcoming smile.
"May I help you?" she asked.
"Most certainly, " Marit answered. "I wish to see yer schedule of classes and what tis offered 'ere."
The lady reached down and pulled a pamphlet out from a bin. She handed it to Marit.
"Thank ye, " said Marit. She resumed to a chair in the lobby and began reading the information, talking aloud as her finger traced over the offers.
"Elven 101, Drow 101, ..." she whispered, then stopped her finger. "Ah....'ere we are. Speech Therapy."
Lord Baldic was listed as the instructor.
Marit jumped up and went back to the clerk.
"See a class your interested in?" the clerk asked, courteously.
Marit nodded. "When is Lord Baldic available? I do wish to speak with him."
"I am available right now, " a voice said behind her.
She swirled around to face a plump man with the prettiest white hair.
"I am interested in speech therapy, " she said.
"Follow me to my office then, Tacky, " he said, attaching a witty tone.

The plump man moved around to the chair facing the window, sat, and swiveled it around to face her.
His eyes went cross-eyed as he looked at the tip of her blade positioned perfectly under his chin.
"Me name is Marit. Understand?, she said, coolly. He threw up both hands in submission; they shook slightly as he held them up. "As she wish, M'lady Marit, he murmured.
She withdrew the sword, her straight and serious expression harnessing and changing over to a sly grin, sheathed it, and sat in the chair in front of his desk.
"So, tis obvious ye know of me. Please enlighten me and tell me more?" Her head went to a slight tilt as she asked.
"I was visiting the duel of arena one day, M'Lady Takcouma and,..."
"Marit is fine, " she interrupted dashing out a smile that relaxed him more.
"Marit, " he began hesitantly. "I frequent the arena in Rhydin because I enjoy watching the duels. With my physical condition, I do not engage in much activities, except for that of my work here which is not active. The duels give me something to do. I like watching that Billy Ray fight. I wish I could be more physical as he and I am a fan of his."
"Ah...Billy Ray. Nae a need to say more bout where ye heard the name Tacky. I understand now."
She then laughed shaking her head.
"Marit, ... I am sorry if I offended you, but I had the impression that you had a great sense of humor. You did not seem to mind Billy Ray calling you Tacky, so I thought it would be okay if I did too. I take any chances to get to know those in upper ranks. Perhaps one day I might lose this weight and people will stop calling me ball dick. Watching the duels give me incentive to lose this weight. I should have known better being that I am
sensitive to my last name being made fun of. I am sorry. I have a strange sense of humor, " he said, then looked down to hide the red to his face.
"I do 'ave a sense of humor, " she said almost defensively, then laughed. "I drew me blade on ye and ye thought I was serious, did ye nae?"
He glanced back up at her, his face showing relief, although the shade of red was still present. "This much is true, Marit. I would not wish to be under your blade and forgive me for not properly introducing myself. Lord Baldic." he said, extending his hand.
She shook it. "Tis me pleasure. Marit Tackouma. Nae Tacky, remember that, " she said, but laughed immediately after, so as to give Lord Baldic the impression that she really ws joking. He played now with the thought of a dare.
"Billy Ray is perhaps just a lazy man, so I ignore his tactics, " she finished, studying him.
"I see. What can I do for you today?" he smiled. That dare was bouncing around in his head.

"I want tae get rid of me accent."
"But Marit, how come?...." he asked, surprised at the request.
"So people can better understand me."
"Marit, yer accent is quite strong. I must also admit that though I am a speech pathologist, I have always worked to improve speech so that correct pronunciation of words can be achieved. But yours, M'lady is just an accent. It becomes you. People adore accents."
"Nae." she said, firmly. "I 'ave me reasons fer doing so. I will pay the necessary fees."
"Let me think about this Marit. I will see what I can do. Where might I contact you?"
She smiled. "I will contact ye on the morrow."
He nodded and slowly moved himself out of the chair. They bid farewell. As he watched her disappear through the door, he murmurred to himself. "getting rid of an accent. How absurd."
The clerk glanced up. "Excuse me, Lord Baldic?"
"Oh nothing, Lucy."

The next evening, Marit walked into the Language center about the same time. The clerk told her to go right into Lord Baldic's office, so Marit did so.
She approached his door and tapped on it a few times, hearing, "Please Enter."
"Evening to ye, " she said, as she strolled through the door. She didn't waste any time and went straight to the point. "Do ye 'ave an answer fer me?"
"I agree to try and help you, Marit."
"Excellent, " she answered, then asked, "How much the fee?"
Just as he was about to answer, someone barged through the door. A tall man skidded in and halted in front of her with a salute. Amusment showed on her face. This man possessed features identical to Lord Baldic's. Marit had no doubt that they were brothers. Just that this brother was well-physiqued and obviously younger.
"Darin! Your just in time to meet,.."
"Tacky!, " finished Darin.
Marit stanced an immediate scowl slipping her eyes back to Lord Baldic.
"I shall forgi'e he said that."
"What, no sense of humor, neh?" asked the tall one.
He definately had nerve she thought. She didn't even know him. Yet she was not surprised he knew of her. Many in the dueling arenas of Rhydin often called her by name. They never knew her. She was getting use to that.
"Ye are?" she asked, watching him as he sat in the empty chair beside her.
"Darin Baldic. I am Harry's brother as you probably have figured out. Anyway, I handle the financial end of things around here. Its a family business, you see."
He rose and put forth his hand in greeting.
"Well, met,..." she said, finding it easy to forgive him silently. He did have some charm to him afterall. She extended her hand and shook his.
"Care for a drink, M'lady?" Darin asked.

"Do ye 'ave Ambrosia?" she asked.
"I apologize, I never heard of that drink, " answered Darin.
"I shall 'ave me usual Ambrosia, then, " she commented.
"But, M'lady,...I said,..."
He stopped talking when the sight of a long stemmed crystal goblet appeared between her fingers. A few flames of fire danced atop the sparkling amber liquid.
She grinned her usual slyness and lifted the drink to her lips. The flames mingled down into the Ambrosia as they came near to her face.
"I still do nae ha'e it quite under control, " she said, finally taking a sip. She sat the goblet down on the table beside her. "Now can we talk an' finish our business then?"
Darin and Harry gave the eye to one another, then both turned to her and at the same time, answered, "Yes."

"Ye were about to tell me the fee, Harry, " she reminded.
"Oh yes...well ...er,....I was thinking that I ...er....ye...that, .. " Harry started, but then with a

"Ye occupy me thoughts with amusement. Tis only a fee we are speaking about. Simple,
simple and nae would I complain ifin the costs were high. Nae like I can nae afford it. I suppose I can see why Darin handles this part of the business. So, Darin,...the Fee?"
She turned her head his way. Darin had taken in her words like a soaked rag and his actions were like the display of wringing out the cloth and showing off his abilities. He sat up taller and smiled.

Marit rose and cut off his words. "Me business is finished 'ere and I shall find some place
else. I do nae like trades."
Despite the cold gaze she placed upon Darin, he kept his smile and remained calm, casting a glance upward to meet her eyes.
"May I at least finish telling you of the deal, M'lady? Will you please sit?" he asked.
"TELL Now. I stand."
"Verra well, " he replied. "Harry will teach ye for the exchange of helping him to lose
weight and teaching him how to duel."
Darin reached for her drink and pressed it into her hands. She sighed and sat down, setting
the goblet back to the table. She lay her golden eyes upon Harry and he seemed to shrink
into his chair.
"I 'ave had students whom I taught to use bow and arrow. I 'ave ne'er taught one to duel and I would consider meself inexperienced. As fer the weight, I can only say that tis up to changing yer habits of daily life and the effort ye put into it comes from the will of ye only.
I am to be wed. I wonder the time I would 'ave putting energies into doing such as ye are requesting."
"So it all seems fair, then, " said Darin, grabbing her attention back to himself. He picked
up a straw and put it into his mouth. "Harry 'as ne'er tried to get rid of an accent and ye 'ave ne'er tried yer hand at teaching yer skill. And wed? I did nae know. Who is the lucky man?"
Marit laughed gently and shook her head lightly.
"Verra well. Ye 'ave a point there Darin. Howe'er I should ask that from now forward, Harry speak fer himself. I accept tis trade and Harry and I shall work on a schedule that suits and fits into time. Tis yer regent, Daelin Dragonsblade whom I give me hand."
Darin's mouth dropped open and the straw dropped to the floor.
