"Babe?" she heard him downstairs, rummageing through one of the closets. A small grin crossed her face while she walked to the top of the stairs.
"What?"
"You seen my cattle prod?" Aja chuckled slightly.
"You seen your son, lately?" he looked up confused and she pointed to the front door. "Have a look."
Huma walked to the front door and peeked out the window. His eyes got round at the sight of Trevor out in the front yard waving it around like he'd seen Huma doing.
"How in the hell...?" Huma started and Aja started down the stairs with a grin.
"Remember eariler today, you decided to come pounce me upstairs?"
"Yeah.."
"Well, you ended up napping and Trevor got curious about what was in your pockets I guess. He found that and scurried outside."
"And you let him?"
"Yep."
"Are you mental?"
"Nope. You think it's such a great idea, and since he's your son, I figured YOU get to yell at him." Aja leaned against the wall in the parlor, grinning at him. He muttered something she couldn't quite hear, and she added. "and ya might want to get that from him before he zaps Dogfood again."
"Damn horse probably deserved it." Huma muttered and half grinned at Aja. "Why couldn't he have zapped the cat?"
"Cause the cat is mama's." he shook his head and went outside heading toward his son. Aja just stood in the doorway watching.

"Trevor, what are you doing with..whoa!" Huma jumped back out of the way of the cattle prod that Trevor brought around to the front as he turned to see who was talking to him. Huma reached out and took it from him. "What are you doing with this?"
"I wanna be like you, daddy." Trevor's bottom lip quivered slightly. Huma looked back at the door to see Aja still standing there watching them. He knew she was going to let him handle it, but he also knew she was being critical of how he handled it. He sighed and looked back at his son.
"Trevor, this isn't a toy to play with."
"I know daddy." the small boy shuffled his feet and looked up at his father, his blue eyes welling up with tears.
"You should start with something smaller, then work your way up to the big guns."
"Like what?" Trevor started to brighten.
"Um..." Huma looked around the yard and saw one of Trevor's nerf bats laying there. "Like your nerf bat!"
"Dad, nerf bats are for sissy's."
"Don't let your mom hear that. She duels with one sometimes."
"She does?" Trevor looked over at his mom, and laughed.
"Yep. She's silly. Now what you gotta do with the nerf bat is, practice parries and stuff." Huma glance back at Aja with a slight grin, then back at his son. "If you happen to see that new kitty, give it a practice low cut." Trevor and Huma laughed. Aja just shook her head slightly watching the pair.
"Why don't you two play out here for a while, I'm going to make sure dinner is started."
"Your cookin, babe?"
"Have you gone daft?" she laughed. "Not a chance. I'm just going to see that it's started." Aja disappeared from the doorway leaving father and son alone.
As Huma spent the afternoon trying to teach Trevor how to duel. He couldn't help but grin at himself. He had always claimed to be a selfish bastard who didn't care about anyone, yet here he was, teaching his son out in the front yard of the home he shared with his wife.
He was brought out of his thoughts by a sharp jab to the side. Trevor stood there grinning and poked his dad again with the nerf bat.
"En guard, Dad!" Huma picked up the other nerf bat and poked Trevor with it.
"En guard, " he snorted "Where'd ya here that?"
"That's what mom always says when we play duel."
"Yer mom was teaching you?"
"Yep."
"Listen to dad, kiddo. I'll teach ya. You're mom's better at, being cute rather than dueling."
"I heard that, Dragonbane!" Aja stood in the doorway, arms crossed, looking right at him. Huma looked at her then back at Trevor and whispered.
"Watch dad get out of this one." Huma grinned at her. "But babe, you think I have you in the arena cause you're an killer in the ring? Nah, you look really good with me!" She chuckled and threw her hands up.
"Whatta guy. I give up." she winked at Trevor. "You two coming in to eat or what?"
"We're coming, babe."
