Jaycy moves from her table and discussion to post a copy of the letter she sent to the Barons regarding the challenge to Lucian. She tacks it up, then takes her scotch with her as she moves out the door.
Members of the Council.
On the eve of 9 August, the match between Lucian and Deluthan for the right to bear the Second Baronial Ring was scheduled to occur at the 11th hour. After a half-hour wait, when I did see neither official or Baron, I did send a note to the lady Drakewyn, requesting assitance. She did enter the Arena and served in an official capacity. The challenger did choose to wait a full hour after the scheduled time, at midnight making a decison.
The Warlord has requested the Baron be in forfeit of this match for his inattendance, and asks the Council look into the matter for a decision. As the Senior-most Baron in attendance, I was asked to pen this letter by the Lady Drake, and thus bring this situation to the Council.

In my experience, it seems quite unusual for the Baron of the Second to miss a Challenge. I would ask that the Council refrain from making a decision regarding possible forfeit until we hear from Lucian himself about these circumstances. However, should we not hear from Lucian within one week, I move that do convene and procure a decision.
In the mean, I will take the liberty of reminding my fellow Council members of our choices in these matters, as stated in the official Rules:
Choices will include, but not be limited to;
(a) Granting the challenger the victory by default
(b) Appointing another to fight against the challenger in place of
the person challenged
(c) Voiding the challenge and returning the challenger's peer wins
Again, I wish to state that I would prefer to give the Baron Lucian one full week to explain his part in these circumstances before attempting to reach a decision in this matter. If the Supervisor wishes an immediate decision, however, I will offer a vote promptly.

Okay guys. I dont understand this at all. Lucian missed his match. Every time this has happend to anyone else, there has been so much controversey about the laws on arriving at your challenge. Every time this happens, the community, as well as many of the officials end up saying "next time, no matter what, if you miss the match its a forfiet." It seems to me that challenges are being missed more and more often. I understand that there might be

Now, I like Lucian probably as much as the next guy. I dont know him that well, true, but of what I know of him, he seems to be a great guy. However. But I am saying that we should think really really hard about what's right about to happen (again).

I love Lucian like a brother, he has always been one of my biggest supporters, and he was da first ta aid me in building House Oakenshield. However, I feel if he is given a second chance it will undermind previous baronial council rulings against an absent baron, as well as future rulings regarding similar situations in which no second chance is given.
I, fer one, would love ta see Lucian remain a baron; but fer da baron's rank ta keep it's integrity as a ruling body or at da very least a guiding one, I feel Lucian must suffer da consequences as others before him did.
While I am neither an active baron nor an active dueler, I hope dat da rank of baron continues ta be looked upon as a leadership role. I want da baron's council ta be respected as a fair and impartial body of leaders who can be trusted ta guide DoS in times of trouble. If da barons' council plays favorites and sets no standards ta which lesser ranked duelers should be held ta, what will our newer crop of duelers turn out ta be like? Barons *are*
examples. Barons *are* looked up ta. Barons *should* lead and should be consistent in both deir values and actions. It is only by consitency dat any standard is created and revered, chaos always leads ta trouble; especially when wielded by a dwarf.

A bit of history that I know of.
11th-Darkness
The Baron himself was a no show for the match. He was unable to defend, and the ring was put up in a tourney. Note, after both challengers to Darkness got a chance against a chosen champion of the council.
12th-Roland
The Warlord Clutch failed to respond to a match. He did appear not more than an hour later. Yet he was stripped of per wins, and Roland continued his hold.
Why is it I bring this up? The simple fact is that never has the baron held his ring after something like this. Just as the Warlord was unable to press his right of challenge. Yet, I admit, I can't read. I therefore spend no time pouring over the histories. What I need, I have people to tell me. I respect the past, and learn what I can. My strength, as my brother once said, lies within my passion, and not my brain. My passion is to duel, to survive.
Not to learn from school books. Though, those that know me, know that I try my hardest to learn the histories, out of respect. So I may be wrong, there may be more. I left out the Dal, Huma Match, for it was over the Crown. Anyway, I will wait for Lucian, my house brother, to tell us his reason. But know that many reasons have been brought up in the past. Many valid reasons. Yet, they were always turned away. I will wait for Lucian's word, but for
now I would press you all to think of what is expectable.
On my last note. What have we become? What have the Barons become? Not a week has gone by. Not four days, and already this is the second time a Baron has failed to show for his duties. In school, for the brief time I did go, there was one thing the teacher always told us. You only have so many grandmothers that can die. I cannot stand for that excuse. Make the commitment, be the commitment. If, indeed it was something as a death, then there is no
reason a lad could not bring missive.
I am young. The youngest Baron on the council. Possibly the youngest to ever earn the title. Jesse was nineteen, as was I when I took the 6th. It, was my skill that brought me to this level. It was my love for the sport. I respect it, and people respect me for it. As of late, I do believe some have not respected it. I will not stand for that. My young nature, my boldness, my stupidness, will not stand for it. Respect.... that is what is needed.

Maybe instead of complaining about what you perceived to be wrongful doings by Lucian, you should have tried to do something about it. Or maybe you should berate all the other duelers who have things to do outside of the Arena and don't duel as often as you. Why limit accusations to just one person?

This is not true. If it were true, the rules would quite clearly say such. What the rules do say was quoted by Simini, which basically say there is no absolute outcome that will be ruled 100% of the time because it is recognized that circumstance does hold sway in these instances.

I can understand being out of town and all... But hell, Lucian wasn't. He was in town for a Tournament, was he not? He hasn't dueled since 6/8/99 in which you all say Gimzak is the main one for inactivity. He is one, but the last time he dueled was 6/8/99; Making it clearer. What I am saying is, he fooled me out of a challenge since he started dueling the day I wrote my notice. He then stopped when I halted it.
I find myself making a mistake and wish to make it known. If ya want to become a Baron, please, try and be a part of the community. He may have something to do, but hell, why did he choose to stand up there and not show when he developed his own date. Obviously he has time to duel since he did start dueling when I challenged him and made it to the Baron's Tournament. Sounds to me like he is a little bored with the sport. It 'sounds' and it 'seems'
like it and I don't like it.
Gimzak is the same way, I like him, but he just isn't around. Couldn't even show up to test Dae. He did although have time for a Baron's Tournament. I don't want to seem like an idiot, but hell, where the heck are ya out there? All 9 Barons that entered the Tourney, there they were. Where are ya now?

Gee, genius... maybe it's because they like dueling in tournaments with their peers when a prize it at stake, but they don't like hanging around with two-bit losers like you every night just to get a duel in every 2 hours. Wow, could that be it? Amazing! Maybe they actually have better things to do than duel in the arena on their weekend nights, and I know that's a scary thought for you since you clearly don't, Drey, but deal with it. Fact is, some
of us have lives and frankly dueling just isn't a high priority when the weekend rolls around and it's time to kick back with a few drinks and a few more babes. Well, except for guys like you.

Frankly, I think you're just sucking on a few too many sour grapes cause little ol' baby Drey wishes he had a ring and feels like he got duped out of challenging Lucian before. Suck it up. Lucian's a good guy, better than you and probably Del, though I couldn't say from personal experience since I don't know the guy much. Lucian's a smart guy, solid in the rings, and definitely a better candidate to hold a ring than at least 90% of the active
Warlords these days.That includes you.

Frankly, I think you're just sucking on a few too many sour grapes cause little ol' baby Drey wishes he had a ring and feels like he got duped out of challenging Lucian before. Suck it up. Lucian's a good guy, better than you and probably Del, though I couldn't say from personal experience since I don't know the guy much. Lucian's a smart guy, solid in the rings, and definitely a better candidate to hold a ring than at least 90% of the active

Should Lucian be given a second chance, I would like to ask that Dalamar's official censorship be removed from the histories, as there is *no* difference in the situations.

You probly didn't read my post, did ya? Just a little scan, hmmm? Sounds right. Like I said, if you don't have time for dueling, then you shouldn't be a Baron. I have the opinion that a Baron should be a part of the DoS and actually be available to duel when needed be.
Maybe they like dueling in tournaments? Well now, so his ring means nothing but jewelry so he couldn't care less about that prize, hmm? I guess this is the reason he wouldn't show up, but I'm not really that concerned about him not showing up. I'm talking about inactivity... Sure, I didn't duel last week, because of course I can do things on the weekends.
My opinion stands that a Baron should atleast be around every so often for a little dueling just to show he is perfectly capable. I know ya may have something to do on the weekend, but not for 2 months. And Thursdays are open!

Bah, incorrect, my friend. The rings means nothing, just the thing that Lucian started dueling at the time I indicated challenge. So obviously, he has time on weekends. Yay.
