Of Luthien Tinuviel ::centered::

Luthien's dew covered bare feet picked up a coating of sawdust as she crossed the empty arena in the wee hours of this nocturne. She was the image of a forest spirit and with her she brought what moonlight had chosen to trail her inside, out of the warm RhyDin night.

Although suffering from a noted lapse in memory, her intellect was spared her. Life was now a puzzle and her silent, personal role was that of "investigation." Reading the boards religiously was a new obsession, or was it? Many, many nights alone, wrapped in the bows of trees, reading the Histories scroll by scroll in the moonlight. It was amazing to her how much was recorded and even more amazing, was the extent to which her own name would appear.
Not only in the Standings, but in the gossip pages, the battle registries, the marriage announcements...and of course, the divorce decrees. It seemed, from her outside perspective that she had already lived more lives than she deserved to. There were still many hundreds of unsorted pages. At times she figured she had read enough......

...and then suddenly, she would find another hint of who she was and from where she had come. The banter between Valmion and Ian Rex, more precisely, caught her attention this time. There were unsettling things learned under the leafy bows as one more scroll fell from her fingertips into the dewy grass. What was it, a memory? Or was her memory painted in by what she had spent each night reading? Ultimately, Luthien found herself with an opinion.
Valmion had helped her, and Valmion had betrayed her. Loyalty had been important to her. Of one thing she found herself sure... Valmion's loyalty had proved flighty over time. Issues... always.

Another hint......Ian's former spouse no less. My but she had done well for herself, no? What had happened to that? One post lead to research, research confirmed yet another brick of information in her rapidly growing wall. A wall that had taken her ages to break down would not rest in pieces. The scrolls had made a neat pile as they fell to the earth.

By now, Luthien was fairly sure of whom she had been married to. With whom she had borne children, their names, but not faces. She figured she knew as much about her former realm as any scholar who studied history without experiencing it first hand. But how much would be enough? Could she let things go as they were? And she had seen Roland now. What ethics would...no, should come to play here? He had mourned her loss, and for all she knew,
dealt with it. As she had watched him, what was intriguing to her was knowing that at some point there was something right between them. Something that time and circumstance had ended, rather than mutual agreement. She would not pursue him. Inevitably though, someday he would see her.

Well, it was time to post a note. Luthien looked up high on the board and found a nice long piece of parchment upon which Elijah had written extensively. She turned it over and used the blank side.....posting the following dead center:

To those who may, or may not be concerned:

After much thought, ....so much more thought than you can imagine, I have decided that my place indeed remains with you in the DoS. I have been gone for some long time for reasons that I cannot entirely understand myself, let alone begin to relate to you. To those of you whom I have wronged somehow in the past, I offer to each of you my deepest apology. You may know who you are better than I. It is my intention to begin with a clean slate where
you will allow, and to try to mend whatever slates cannot be washed clean with these words alone.
Being competitively minded, I would have you know now that it is also my intention to become Overlord of the DoS. It may be a very long time before I qualify for the trial, or it may not. Whom I challenge, I will challenge with all due respect for the Overlordship and the dueling community. My reason shall be laid out at the time of my challenge. It shall not be 'personal' in any affront to the residing Overlord.
So now, you know that I am here.........you, that it concerns.

I remain,

Luthien,

I, for one, am quite glad to see you around again. I am very glad that you feel this is where you belong. We should all find our place in life, and I am glad that you have been able to do so. I have some guitar playing to do for you sometime, though it doesn't seem to be likely to happen on a Wednesday night this time around.
As for goals, I for one see nothing wrong with yours. I realize you may not know me as well as some, but should you need a friend please let me know.

Blinking from a wistful gaze, Cygnet sees her friend Luthien's note.

Eyes bright, a smile forms as she places a small fraile feather near the Queen's signature.

Roland looked to the heavens; this would make the fourth impostor to arise since Queen Luthien's funeral in New Mountainside. Did these people wish to torment him for the purpose of a response, or were they after the dead Queen's former glory? It didn't help that the bodiless funeral held for the Queen was a grand platform for these con persons to jump from.

He was used to their kind. No heart and a tainted soul. No care for the effect it had on others, on the children, on his family, on him.

This knowledge never seemed to comfort him much, however, or keep away the hope that it was indeed Luthien returning; in tact and the same as she had always been.

This time the routine seemed to go differently. His informants in the Questrion realm had been quite enthusiastic about this impostor's originality. Adding to the fact that her first public message was released into the Arena first and the sway she seemed to already have winning over the ill-informed dueling community. Indeed, this impostor seemed a great deal more original than it's former.

With a heavy sigh he penned a reply, written by the Tavern of Fury's ring keeper, to the original message. His thoughts drifting to the possibilities; could this be the original? or would he have to deal with another impostor? One who seemed to have her eyes set on a prize he himself had someday hoped to wear.

"Dear Luthien;

As a concerned patron and dueler, I would like to request a meeting with you sometime in the near future. Please contact me on a time and place at your earliest convenience.

At your service,
~Corban Lee, Commoner."

Penned under the message is the address to one of the Inn's many mail slots, registered under the last name Sabanon.

On finding the request, and having no other pressing business to atttend to......at all... Luthien replys, sending the missive off to the provided mailbox :

Dear Mr. Lee,

It would be my hope that I could assuage what concerns you have. My earliest convenience would be tomorrow in the early eve, some time between 2 p.m. pdt and 7 p.m. pdt. That is a time range I can commit to on the morrow, if this is impossible for you we can try again.
Until next we speak, be well.

Long absent from the rings.. making a life for herself and her new husband Philippe and Erwyn. Teleperien strolls into the arenas to see what is up..

A familiar hand writing.. snatching up the post.. she scans it with frantic haste. She drops her hand to her side.. the note slowly crumpled in her slender fingers.

"I must find her.."

Late.....

Very late at night, when the only sounds about are the tick-tock of the clocks, and the shuffling feet of danger......

One walks, ever without fear through the blackness, upon the bloodied ground of the arena.

Once, he had dueled here, so long ago now that it was but a dim memory.

His thoughts trail to the blade, Lyfedrinker, and he smiles inwardly as he remembers those times that.....

.....his reverie is interrupted as he spots a note in the darkness, the handwriting upon it unmistakable......

One white hand, the long dark sleeve of his black robes about it, moves the edge of the paper closer, that he may be certain......

Interesting. Making a mental note to look further into this matter, the Master of Bane fades into the night.....
