A chance meeting...

Valmion passed through the doors of the Red Dragon Inn, slipping the black and silver cloak from his shoulders and hanging it on a peg just inside the door. He quickly glanced about for a familier face and seeing none, slowly made his way through the tavern towards the bar.

"How times changed things," he thought as he reached the bar and nodded to the tender who politely asked him what he wished to drink. He gave the young woman his order and turned on the stool so he could look about the bar.

o/~ When the prince was seventeen... o/~
o/~ He dreamed of being king... o/~
o/~ And owning everything he wanted... o/~

o/~ But that was long ago... o/~
o/~ His dreams did not unfold... o/~
o/~ Now he's the king of nothing... o/~

The words of the song caught Valmion's attention as he looked to the stage to see who the bard was that sung such haunting lyrics. It was like a moment frozen in time as he saw the figure standing not five feet from him as he had turned to the stage. Thoughts rushed through Valmion's mind as he heard the tender sit his ale down behind him.

"Easy your highness, if I had wished to kill you, I would have done it outside," the black knight said, moving towards the bar and the seat next to Valmion.

"You have some nerve Breunis, after killing my son, to walk in here and approach me," the Lord of Questrion replied, standing and turning so he faced the approaching knight.

"Sit back down Valmion, if you could hurt me, do you really think I would have walked in here," Breunis said with a gesture for him to take his seat once more. The black knight then sat two gold coins on the bar. "I will have what he's drinking and his is on me," he told her as he sat down in the stool next to where Valmion was sitting.

"Sit down Valmion, we need to talk," the black knight continued, glancing around the tavern, giving a stern look to all who were not minding their own business. Valmion sat back down next to the knight, knowing full well he spoke the truth about not fearing the Lord of Questrion. If this man could fell Arlingond, then Valmion knew he was not a threat to Breunis Sans Pite.

"Since the mage has worked his magic on you, and made you young again," Breunis said, a bit of sarcasm in his voice. "You have not reacted as I would have guessed. Your memories are there as you recognized me, yet your heart is not reacting Valmion, this must be strange for you."

Valmion sat back down and looked at the black knight, his confident manner as he asked the question. Pondering an answer he reached for the ale and took another sip and glanced about the tavern once more.

"You are right Breunis, I see much that I remember. I hear much that I have done and my heart is cold to it all. I look to you and know that you were my enemy, my friend and ally and now my enemy once more. I know that you murdered my son not long ago and yet, I feel no anger towards you," Valmion responded before sitting his ale mug back on the bar.

Breunis looked at the Lord of Questrion for a moment and then stood. "Know you this Valmion, I did not wish for Arlingond to die. I had wished to send you a message only, knowing the Prince had magics great enough to save himself. He chose not to. Don't interfere in my plans here in RhyDin, Valmion and we will have no further problems. You have nightmares enough to deal with." The knight then turned and headed back to the door, leaving Valmion
sitting at the bar behind him.
