Regarding the 8th Ring. A letter to the Council

Council Members,

It would appear that Baron Meth (SN Methous45) of the 8th Ring decided not to show for a Challenge Match at the time 9th Hours so agreed upon by both parties on the 17th day of your Lives in the Year 1999.

I came upon a scene in the Dueling Arena that requires your attentions. Baron Methous was to duel Warlord Aspen. As the 2 have debated and sent their own documentation to validate the match, my presence this eve was only receive the words from the Warlord as to a stated coarse of action.

I was not asked to officiate the match, nor received documentation to Call the match. As mentioned by Aspen, Vanessa was sent a formal request to call the match, but for some reason, renegade bandits intercepted the last dispatch of correspondence. As it was, Aspen was able to have a rather crafty and extremely sneaky mole present Drake with the request to be Official over the Challenge.

I ask that the Council look into this matter at once on behalf of Warlord Aspen. Warlord Aspen, after placing himself within harms way for in excess of three quarters of one hour in the open lands of the Barons territory, so asks the Council to decide his fate in the matter with the Challenge to the Baron Methous. Warlord Aspen so states that he can nae fight for a minimum of 2 weeks hence as he has pressing matters already scheduled. Aspen has
presented me with 4 Scrolls that show that Meth nay acted accordingly in this Challenge. Warlord Aspen apparently did the majority of the work to set the match up. If you desire these scrolls Ill be happy to dispatch a Secure Convoy on your command. I'm sure though, that in your infinite wisdom, you'll ask for all documentation to be presented by both parties. The Baron finally showed at 9:52 EST after the Warlord asked for the Council to decide
the matter and after I left the Arena to tend to my animals.

Baron Methous has not presented any documentation of proof at this point.

May this letter find the Council in haste.

Though I have no official say in this, I wish the council to keep in mind the Baron Methous' appalling behavior that night. His flagrant abuse of the 8th ring not only disgusted myself, but also insulted every person who has fought in these rings.
I ask the council to be extreme in their punishment, to the point of banishing the Baron from the rings forever. The destruction of a Baronial ring should not be tolerated at all.
I only hope the ring can be restored...

Just so everyone has the facts, I sent a missive to Aspen and Drake, saying I needed to reschedule, a few hours before the challenge. Aspen saw it, and under Taylara's advice, ignored it, so he could screw me out of the ring. Just the facts.

Aside from the facts, Methous. Your flagrant destruction of the Eighth Ring simply proves your disrespect of the Duels, not that we needed more proof. You are by far the least deserving person to hold a title.

You sent a letter, that is fine. I was not there last evening so I cannot say much on the matter.

However, by doing what you've done, destroying the ring, it is apparent that there is no change in who you are. You are still the ignorant, pathetic wretch I've always thought you to be.

May the Council strip you of that title.

Methous~

Well, I was right...time did indeed tell whether or not a change was made within you.

What right do you have to destroy a symbol of this Sport? What right do you have to symbolically spit on every person that ever worked long and hard in this community, simply because *you* waited until the last gods be damned minute to request a reschedule.

Aspen had every right to deny you your reschedule. There is nothing I have read in the rules that states that he is required to reschedule for you when you choose to wait until the last minute to notify *anyone* of your wish.

If anything, I believe the powers that be should suspend your right to duel, so that you can sit down and think about the meaning of what you did.

Enraged,

He stood on the parapet of his keep, looking out over the wide berth of the Esgalduin. One hand held the crumpled remains of a sheet of parchment; the other dug into the stone of the parapet, little flakes of granite dust filtering to rest on the roof at his feet.

For well over an hour, the King of New Caithness stood there, his teeth clenched, and his eyes blazing. FInally, he turned, addressing the courier who stood awaiting some reaction - ANY reaction save the dead silent seething of the recipient of the news of the destruction of the Eighth. The former holder of said ring looked coldly at the messenger and spoke.

"Get me Jeffrey Oakenshield."

The courier scrambled off, plainly aware that an insult that could not be borne had been delivered.

Destruction of something that belongs to each and every person that sets foot in the ring shows that Methous is completely worthless..both as a title-holder and as a human being, or god..whatever the hell he wants to be. Destroying the Eighth was the most idiotic thing he could have done..May Blackheart influence the Council to dream up the worst punishment for someone who has shown utter contempt for our beloved sport..

Rest assured that I will do my part to punish this childish action to the fullest in the Council's power. Meth's behaivor is unnacceptable and we, the members of the Council, should set an example that such behaivor simply will not be accepted by handing down only the most severe of punishments to Meth.

As I wrote to Meth and the rest of the council:

~~~~~~
Meth, if you hadn't destroyed the ring, you wouldn't have been in any trouble (at least to me). Nobody told you to break the ring; you did it on your own.
But this has gone completely beyond what it should have been. Aspen should have been mature enough to accept the request to reschedule, and not have involved the council in this at all.
But with what I've heard, concerning this situation, you can both go to hell. I beg the pardon of the other parties who are reading this, for the ferocity behind the words, but I am at the point of no return when I hear of a ring being destroyed because the two duelers aren't responsible or mature enough to handle it on their own.
Var Medici-Giovanni
~~~~~

If something came up for Meth at the last minute, then I feel he has every right to request a reschedule. It bothers me that Aspen decided to have the council act like schoolteachers, handling the match they were very well aware of handling themselves.
But Meth destroyed the ring. If he hadn't done that, I don't think there should have been any trouble with him. As far as I'm concerned, though, he has gone beyond any reconciliation by destroying the ring.

I can only offer my apologies to the community of DoS. In the past I stood up for Methous, asking for patience and temperance in dealing with him, as I have asked the same for many newcomers to our community. In light of his actions and behaviour, I must admit that I was terribly, terribly wrong. I had hoped that given time he would have learned something
of the honour and traditions of DoS. I had hoped that he might feel pride at belonging to our community. My hopes were in vain, however, for it is clear that he learned nothing of what the Rings symbolize, or of the honour of being a Baron. I can only hope that the Baron's council will take the strongest measures available to them in seeking redress for this grievious action on his part. Again, my apologies to the community. His behaviour should
have made it clear to all how he felt and thought.... even to me.

Var~

After reading your post, I have to partially agree with you. Perhaps we should hear as to why he had to reschedule at the last minute.

It had better be good.

This is beyond anything I have known. School children is not the category to place the pair in. This was a challenge match from hell from the beginning; now, the 'match' exceeds expectations by a long shot. The council's decision should be a swift one. Aspen chose to disregard a request to reschedule, and although possibly not being the best thing to do, it is within his right. The matter beyond that point would have been a semi-normal affair for
the council, but, after the disgusting behaviour of the godling or whatever his title is, the matter is cut and dry. Methous wishes to take from this sport what others had worked hard for; there is no room for an individual in this community that, above being the most wretched specimen of a creature I had ever come across, wishes to deface this beloved sport. If he wishes to destroy an important part of this sport's heritage, he should be excluded
from participating in any duel that would bring him closer to attaining one of the treasured icons he ruined. Let Methous go down as a bad tase; a stain in this community's rich history.

I always believed that if Methous ever won a Barony, he would be a laughable disgrace to the Council, to the Community, and to the history of whichever Ring he chose to stain.

But I never imagined this.

When Aspen challenged Methous for the Eighth, I predicted it to be a debacle. I mocked it
in a matter that I find now even juvenile, yet it seemed to fit.

But never, in the most creative pits of my imagination, did I foresee this.

This is not funny. This is not amusing. The basest, most barbaric emotions and instincts of the human psyche, locked away in the most taboo recesses of a man's soul and mind, would not find this to be even mildly entertaining. What you have done, "Baron", is quite possibly the most vile action ever taken in DoS's grand tradition, from Round 1 of the very first duel ever held, to this very moment. It may be that there has never been a blacker day in
DoS history than the 17th of August this summer. What you did, godling, was a slap in the face to every one who has held the Eighth, everyone who has challenged for it and come up short, every official who has called a match where the Barony was at stake, every up and coming dueler who may have *looked* at the Eighth and decided they wished to hold it one day in their careers. I only have two elixirs to soothe the wounds, one being that legends of
the ring such as Dalamar Ar'Daumon and Siera Redwin did not have to see your disgrace, and the other being, selfishly enough, that is was the Eighth, and not the Sixth. Truly, Methous, if I were to have witnessed you crush the ring I and others before me wore with pride, I would have been blinded and rendered senseless by pure, unadulterated rage, and
you sir, would not be here reading this. On a likewise note, mayhaps it was best for all
that Jeff was not in the Arena last eve. For I beleive if he were, your blood would taint Chaos
for many days a coming.....

It was well-known my desire to remove from you the Eighth, Methous, and maybe, just maybe, the finger sporting it as well. But it seems as if you need to be punished formally. The Ring is too good for you.

Council, I beseech you to consider banning this man for life, if not ending that life.

::considers::

So, my next question would be... Is the ring truly destroyed or is it going to mystically reappear? People reappear often, even after their bodies are incinerated and their ashes sprinkled over the Great Inland Sea, is it to be so with a ring. Ah, ..or was the destruction of the ring just a symbolic metaphor? At who's convenience shall this incidence be
rectified?

And how about adding this to the rule book while we're at it. "Deliberate destruction of official Duel of Swords property shall be punishable by a public stoning."

Ah'well.. a brass-balls maneuver tempered with stupidity indeed. Life, and the sport, goes on of course. With what shall the bucket be fixed my dears...

Quite a way for a moderately insignificant Baron to go down in our history books... putting an abrupt end to the chronological list of 8th barons. Its not such a terrible idea really. Ending the 8th's family tree would only serve to make having held posession of it more significant. An endearing memory of sorts for the lucky few who had the opportunity where no future duelist can follow.

We make history, or we make history memorable. Just a thought.
