Um if it's a baronial challenge, and the result of the match ends up having the title of baron switch hands, I would think the Standings would reflect that. Besides, there is no one to enforce law around here anyway in this sport anymore. Anarchy in the DoS has finally come.

The Dragonian first saw the proclaimation out in the streets, of all places. He had been walking along, beating his clenched right fist into his open left palm, that having become a nervous habit of his over the last few weeks.
Then, the paper blew across his feet and he slammed a booted heel on the flapping paper, glancing down and reading the words that his foot was not blocking..from that angle it just looked like:
Verce in Favre
Derek D'ere hez Starke Legend
In a duel to the as the Blin
s grand opening!
Winner th Baronial Ring of the D
along with a prizes!
..The Dragonian furrowed his brow, and then picked up the paper and read the whole of the announcement, his brow creasing further and his emerald eyes taking on a dark swirl as he crumpled the paper up.
A muttered curse parted his lips as he glanced down the street..."That bastard".
They had made an agreement, but this was different, at least in his eyes..turning, he looked for a place to go..not knowing exactly what to do first, then he just shook his head and headed to the Arena of Inferno, hoping Drey or Percy was there, and for the sake of the former, he hoped it was the latter.

Be it known to all who duel within the confines of the Arena, that upon this 24th night of the 11th. month, a new body was formed for the express purpose of interpreting and enforcing the rules of this sport.
The body is threefold and is made up of the longest serving, and currently active caller in the Duel of Swords, Host DFC Fish, as well as HOST DFC Stormi and myself, Host DFC Reiver.
In light of the recent exodus of callers from our community, We, along with Kings agents, have taken the reigns to lead this community into the future.
Upon forming this commission the first order of business was the matter of a Death Match for the right to wear the 5th ring.
In an unanimous decision the commission does expressly forbid such a match to take place within the walls of the dueling Arena or its Basement Annex.
The title of Baron is deemed to be one of great honor and example for the community and should the participants refuse to comply with this non sanctioned or peer win verified duel, the following actions will be taken.
This is a violation of the rules if the Duel of Swords, should the Warlord be killed, the title of Baron shall be stripped from the holder of the 5th and his right of duel within the arena will be forfeited for a period not less than one full cycle and the ring will be placed as a prize in the next Warlord Tournament.
Secondly, should the warlord prevail, he will not be recognized as a Baron by this commission and the 5th ring will be placed as a prize in the next Tournament and he will be banned from dueling for a period not less than one cycle as well.
In addendum:
We the commission, knowing our authority has no reach to the beyond the confines of the Arena or its Basement Annex cannot forbid such a duel from taking place outside said confines but do this day give notice that the Duel of Swords will not recognize any change in the title of the current holder nor will it give recognition to anyone attempting to usurp said title after any such match occurs.
Signed this 24th day of November

I'm confused. Who gets stripped of the ring, the Blindfold Proxy, or Drey Starke? If it's the Proxy, why? He won't have slain anyone. If it's Starke, the ring obviously won't legally be his.
So why bother "stripping" him of it? And why don't you recongize the longstanding feud between Rix and Drey? You all have been around long enough to.
"Secondly, should the warlord prevail, he will not be recognized as a Baron by
this commission and the 5th ring will be placed as a prize in the next
Tournament and he will be banned from dueling for a period not less than one

Stop and think. Think about why your predecessors did not take such actions against Jesse Troyan, Gunthar O'Dwyer, and Damien Mortis this very last spring. They only refused to sanction those duels, they did not even *discourage* them! What about other matches in our traditions and histories outside the official sanction? What about the Jeff-Huma honor match? What about Athlstan's battle for the Ward? Gonna pass retroactive measures against
these, hm?
You know, this last spring, while Baron of the 12th, I dueled Alexandria Wells in an honor match where I was challenged to put my ring on the line. That is fact. Going to take action against me now?
Vereceterix Gavin Favre is an honored and well-known member of this community, a pillar of the Fifth's history who is merely seeking to restore honor to what he once held. He does not deserve to be suspended should he be victorious. I am saddened to see the day has come that courage is punished in this Arena.
By the way, when is the next Tournament?
I need to seriously consider whether or not I wish to remain part of such a community, or whether or not I wish to remember what once was before seeing it tainted further.

Cassius,
The question of Rix' courage has never been in question. His long standing in the community was taken in to consideration while this subject was debated. As for punishment for the action, this is where the proverbial line must be drawn.
You site the battle between Prudence and Luthy as your resoning for allowimg this match to continue, as well as the match between The Cleric and Volda Morte.
Bear in mind that the Ward of Gondar was intrusted to Vol and in his selfish attempt to bring his version of honor back to the rings he demanded a sacrifice. Luthy was a pawn in the duel, as was Prudence. Vol witheld the healing Ward to allow a death in the rings he was sworn to protect. When she died, Vol himself dueled the Cleric and with the skillful dueling of Athlstan and the spiritual warfare of Ian MacKenzie and Raven, the Ace of Swords, the
Ward was wrested from its keeper.
To my knowledge the Ward is still intact and cannot be waived.
The title of Baron is granted to the victor of a properly placed challenge. There can be no exchange of title, unless peerwins are offered and verified and the duel is sanctioned by the DoS official in charge of such matters. This duel must also be dueled within the confines of the duelers arena or the annex and be officiated by a sanctioned caller of the DoS.
These particular criteria have not been met and thusly the duel is a fraud in the eyes of the DoS.
Regarding the consequences for the actions of the two who wish to thwart the authority of the rules, the commission has set what we deemed to be appropriate for the flagrant violations of the established rules.
There is ample time to change the terms of this proposed match prior to committing such violations. Should the pair insist upon the course they have chosen, they do it with their eyes wide open and the repercussions in mind.
On a final note, when Pru was killed, there was no title on the line .As I understand it, had that duel not been allowed, there would be none of us left standing to duel in the sands of the arena, as our lifes blood would have seeped between the cracks without the Wards protection.
Signed this 25th Day of November
Nycholas De Grylington,
One of the Three
PS: Warlord tourney? my personal response is simple, When this issue is settled and we have found the troops to call such an event, there will be announcements made.

Cassius Maximus,
So like thee to attempt to alter the particulars of yuir so called honor match against Alexandria Wells. Though thou wert challenged to duel for thine Ring, lout, thee didst refuse that challenge and dinna set foot upon the sands until the matter hae been settled to thine satisfaction that, shouldst thee indeed lose, thine ring wouldst nae be forfeit.
Indeed, thou sniveling lout, thee didst refuse to place thine title and Ring in jeopardy and didst castigate Masters Troyan, O'Dwyer and Mortis for their actions most vociferously.

Master Grylington
What King wouldst hae agents usurp the sovereignty of these ancient halls? Sirrah, for time immemorial tis the City and these ancient halls hae been neutral ground, under no rule nor the boot of anna Monarch or his Agents.
What enticement wast offered unto thee and thine cohorts to bend knee and permit such heinous usurpation? What Monarch, what Realm wouldst dare to claim sovereignty or rights of adjudication o'er the personages what frequent these ancient halls? Name the blighter and realm, sirrah, so that both may be stricken from the face of this planet.
Thou, Master Grylington, and thine cohorts wouldst pronounce anathema and punishment for an act which hast nae yet been accomplished. Shall all what enter these ancient halls now bow head and bend knee, groveling at thine feet and beg of thee and thine cohorts and these King's Agents thine permission to cross steel, to shed their blood upon these ancient sands? Fie upon thee, sirrah. Fie I say, for the Darkness of the Abyss now descends, the death
knell dost toll, nae for he that may perish by the blade but for this ancient and honorable blood sport.
Thou speaketh of the striving of the Cleric against the might of the demon Voldemorte. Yet do the deeds of that night reside in an ancient tome within the confines of the ancient Library at Arda. Yet thou wouldst make a claim for the Ward which doest nae exist, that being its healing be efficacious for all what strive. Ne'er has that been true, sirrah. Witness, sirrah, the mortal wounding of the one who didst stand ast champion for the former
Overlord, Taylara Tyree. Title wast indeed sought that eve, sirrah, and the duel sanctioned and witnessed. She hast passed from this veil of existence, yet wouldst thee and thine cohorts now come forth and lay sanctions upon he that didst slay that champion? Wouldst sully the name of the Moriquendi, Feadur Feamegil, he that didst slay the demon entity which sought the life's blood of Fandral Kurgan?
I hae perused the missive placed upon this ancient cork by the Blindfold Management. I but notice tis a challenge issued by Vercetrix Gavin Favre unto Derek D'erest Sanchez Starke Legend. To the death, aye, yet death bides always at the back of a warrior. Tis I dinna perceive this to be annathing other than a challenge by one warrior unto another. Tis merely circumstance that one warrior dost hold title ast a Baron. Wouldst thee and thine
cohorts then pronounce sanctions against anna what wouldst offer to cross blade with those of title? What folly, sirrah.
Dost then hold that mere possession of a Baron's Ring dost confer title upon the bearer? What balderdash, sirrah.
Thine Triad and these King's Agents hae set thine feet upon a path leading nae into the future, but into oblivion. The cry of the corbie echoes within the vastness of the cavern, mourning the passing.
In sadness,
Jonalyn Starfare

cohorts then pronounce sanctions against anna what wouldst offer to cross blade with those of title? What folly, sirrah.
Dost then hold that mere possession of a Baron's Ring dost confer title upon the bearer? What balderdash, sirrah.
Thine Triad and these King's Agents hae set thine feet upon a path leading nae into the future, but into oblivion. The cry of the corbie echoes within the vastness of the cavern, mourning the passing.
In sadness,
Jonalyn Starfare

Lady Starfare,
I bid thee step from thy lofty perch but for a moment to hear the words of a tired veteran of these rings. Lend thine ears that these words of truth might bridge the spance between them.
The king thee denounce marches toward the gates. He sends before him a band of three. Three to take the place of one. For many years this hallowed ground has been a stronghold of the defiant. Yet through these years, there has always been one to settle thine grievances whence the 9 or 13 were unable.
Tis but a change, and change is ofttimes unsettling. Wouldst we stay and wither as the halls empty of the voices and the ringing of steel?
Wouldst we cling hopelessly to the past when the pending demise of this wondrous land looms ominously. Nay I will not cling to that. I will stand with my brethren and join the triad as you call it. I will assume the responsibility placed upon my shoulders. Alone I would not suffer to attempt such an act, but with the others, I might find temperance and wisdom to settle the disputes and to debate the outcome of certain events. Would not you heed the
words of Panther whence he did serve the community? What of Lady Helix and Goldendust Evermeadow? Was not their word the final say in many a dispute? I say it was, I say their wisdom was respected by thee and those who strove within the rings. I usurp nothing, I stand before the community with a new title, I am One of Three. My word is not final, it is tested upon the ears of two others and with calm reasoning a decision will and has been reached.
Thee may disagree with a decision and thy crying out will be heard in good time. This matter before the commission was in of need immediate deliberation and could not be bandied back and forth upon this cork in time to get thine approval. The Warlord and the Baron were informed of this decision and will act, each according to his own conscience.
Thine inference that we would sanction any choosing to cross blades is ludicrous. We have dealt with this matter in a reasonable manner and have come to the conclusion that this challenge is void and has no merit under the rules of this ancient sport. If the contestants insist upon using the fifth ring as a prize for their duel, the repercussions for their actions have been previously announced.
You, Jonalyn, are well versed in these rules and know full well that no challenge shall go forth without the verification of peerwins to which none have been provided. Thee know too that a ring is awarded as a token of esteem to one skilled enough to earn that title. Should Rix defeat the Baron, he may win the prestige of title according to the Proxy but that title will not be granted within these walls.
Should said ring leave the jurisdiction of this body, a new ring will be fashioned in like manner of the Fifth and shall be offered in the upcoming Warlord Tournament.
Show me, Jonalyn, where we have erred. Show me where it is written that a match to the death will be called by an official of this sport. Show me, if you will, where the rules allow an employee of the Red Dragon may stand as official to a challenge that has no validation from the standings keeper.
I dare say, you cannot.
I cannot speak to your references to Moriquendi, Feadur Feamegil or Fandral Kurgan for I was not privy to those events. I have only my own memories and the rules which apply to the sport that you know I love.
Would you have true anarchy reign? Would you have the council disbanded and toss all the rings in a pot for the whole of DoS to clamor for?
Without a supervisor or a committee to sort the facts of a matter out, there will be nothing but chaos within these hallowed walls.
There was a time when those before us came to a new land and formed this community. They, in their wisdom, did lay the ground work for that which we enjoy today. They formed the council of Barons and established the rules under which combat can be monitored to assure the fair and equitable rankings so many strive for.
Without these rules, there would be naught but clamoring to become the king of the hill.
In finality, there are none in this kingdom who would bend a knee to myself or the other two. None of us would have it either.
I would ask of each of the members of this community to offer nothing more than what little respect we may earn and respect for the rules, written upon these tablets.

In my opinion, anyone who would kill or put his/her life on the line just to obtain the title, is someone not worth having as a baron. This goes along with the fact that it's not a properly issued challenge, so any attempt to pass the title shouldn't be recognized.
Along the same token, I imagine I could find a few people, and ask Jona or Lupton if they would finance my own triumvirate over the Arena. After all, if I'm not mistaken, they rule kingdoms as well (I hope I'm corrected if I'm wrong).
I guess dying with dignity is out of the question for these ancient halls now. On the bright side, it could have done something stupid like dying in an attempt to take a title.
