Expanded Duties of the Baron's Council

Community,

Today we, the Baron's Council, recieved the following letter from members of the Commission. I was a bit dumbfounded at first, but I will restate the letter so that you may all read it before I write about my own thoughts.

Overlord and esteemed barons of the realm,
In reviewing the facts in this matter, We must take issue with the decison reached by the voting members of the council
The matter of the original issue, the alleged tardy response by the baroness, seemed to be settled with the standings keepers letter of 8/9/01
But, if you will refer you  to the baroness' response in  said letter below. You will note that she did ask the councils opinion prior to replying to the Warlords request for the duel.
Though some of the barons did state, Don't bother with triffles, whip the messenger and fight.( loose paraphrase mine) The Overlord never informed the baroness or the standings keeper of your (the Council)FAMILY="SANSSERIF" FACE="Arial" LANG="0"> decision.
Since this has been the established practice during Cletus' reign,( as in the letter I am replying to), one would expect the same in this issue.

We feel that this matter, (the request by the baroness to have a decision by the council ),was never properly addressed. The Commission  wishes to offer the warlord the right to reschedule the match or withdraw said challenge with peer wins intact.
Sincerely
the Duel of Swords Commission

Now, it seems that the Baron's Council is required to state "words" on why or why not a challenge should proceed. Under the current rules of the sport it seems that this clause was nowhere to be found under our duties. Now a decision has been overturned and the Warlord still hasn't recieved the justice he wishes because of some frivolous episode in which we were never informed that we must "respond" by the Commission but yet and still they hold it
against us and remove our decision from us. I just thought you all had a right to know about this. If the Commission had informed us we were supposed to do this, things might have been different, but this is just too much..

By asking for word from the Council before she would proceed, the Baroness was the one who did the asking... not the Commission.

The Baron's council does not have to respond to the wishes of one individual. This pitiful commission you have assembled did not ask the council for an opinion on the matter. When I sent my first original message to the council, I asked them about the situation regarding the 2 minutes and recieved this response from one of your commission.

"i should have clarified ...... i had thought we took care of the 2 minute issue.."

This came from KF. This statement right here made any further response about this issue moot. The fact that you think this matter was not properly addressed does not warrent you stepping in and overturning this council's ruling. The fact remains that Wilder was the one who asked for the clarification, and it is not the council's job to adhere to individual wishes.

As for your attack against myself, I have kept all parties involved well informed of what was going on in all matters sent to the council. In this situation, there was never a decision reached since this situation was never officially discussed. It is not in the Baron's council's power to rule upon a matter that was not officially refferred to them. This matter was never officially turned over to them. Only the forfiet was and that is what Wilder
should be held accountable for. Denying the Warlord the justice he seeks because of your failure to offically inform the council that they had jurisdiction in this matter is as pitiful as this commission you have formed.

Allow the Barons council's decision to stand and get off of this power trip you seem to be on.

A young boy places a copy of a letter sent upon the boards for the general public to read:

The Standings Keeper ruled the challenge valid, period. Just because Karen Wilder wanted us to hold her hand and tell her things were all dandy does not give her the right to miss her challenge.
With all due respect, as I believe I have amply shown in the past, I do not believe the Council, nor the Community should be abused in this manner. If I want to wait until I have the opinion of every commoner past and present before I decide when to complete my challenge, will I be pampered, coddled, and treated with special consideration as well?
This matter, of the missing of a scheduled date, was turned over to the Council officially, allow our decision to stand or else disband us and leave off with trying to provide us with some delusion of authority.

Most sincerely,
Ellisa Morgan

I am sorry, but this is a gross misrepresentation, Cletus. During my challenge for the 13th ring, I had to inform the community myself of the fact that Magnus had been chosen by the Council to champion said ring. You never did so. While I do not have personal experience with every single challenge that has taken place in your reign, I would say that in this one instance I have noted, at least, you did not keep 'all parties informed'.

The reason the Council did not properly address this issue is because the issue was not properly addressed to begin with.
If the Commission wants the issue addressed by the council, then it's the duty of the Commission to call the Council to task.
There has never been an incident I can recall where a Council made a decision, or their decision was made official, without being requested to do so by the head official of the sport. This time should be no different.
If, in the future, the Council is expected to answer every single question from parties outside the officials of the sport, where their decision is binding, then I am making a request for the Council to mow my lawn. If they cannot, or are unable to, then I request they assign someone who able of completing said task.
Please, let's not be sloppy with the Council, Commission. When their decision is an official one, you request them to deliberate. It is currently not the responsibility of the Council to answer anyone else... and nobody can expect otherwise unless an official change of protocol is announced publically.
To say the least, I am dismayed at how poorly this situation is being handled. A couple days longer delay, all beginning with a two minute breach.

Read my words closely, Percival. I stated all parties involved. I kept yourself, Magnus, Evan, and the commission quite abreast of the situation, as you were the parties directly involved. Placing a notice on the cork slipped my mind at the time.

Members of the Baron's Council,

Why don't you let the two have their match and be done with it. Geez, this is the Duel of Sword, not the Duel of Wordsplitters All this bickering arises over a two minutes interval. It makes no sense at all.

Tae whom it may concern.

No date and time was agreed upon by both myself and the Warlord.

The Warlord's man did declare in his first letter thet the date I did suggest was nae acceptable. I did say thet the Warlord should offer an alternate date.

It were nae until the day I did suggest thet the Warlord's man did say he would be in the Arena. I were nae able tae respond tae this letter. It were nae until today thet I were able tae review all of the correspondence on the matter.

I have nae more tae say on this matter.

Perhaps it makes no sense to you because you cannot read properly. This has nothing to do with the two minute issue but rather the fact that Karen Wilder did not show up for the time and date she set for her challenge.

Then again, your post does not surprise me in the least, with the sole exception of the fact that you forgot to maintain your deception of true illiteracy and use "yer".

Lady Wilder,

One by the name of Father Dominic wrote this:

She has asked it to be said that, should the matter be sent before the Council, she should be stripped of the Fourth Ring. She knows that her opinion carries no weight in such a vote, but she wishes it known that she would never desire to not be held to the same standards that all other Barons have during her tenure as Baroness.

From what I know, the matter had been turned over to the Council, and we voted on it. I am just wondering this: now that the Commision has overruled us, do you desire to be held in different standards as the other Barons during your tenure have?

Simply,
General Leonardo Tassadar de Lorenzo

::reads, re-reads and then thinks a long minute::

Since when have the Barons of this community become politicians?
A whiny warlord cries over a letter delivered two minutes late or at least alleged to be late. Since the letter was delivered on the 7th day one would assume the allegation obserd.
Then when the council jumps on the "Strip the Baron" bandwagon they will be known for, the commission while acting within their rights and in accordance with the Universal Terms of Challenge, over rode what they saw as an injustice.
Make the Warlord and Baron finish this challenge and let us remain the duel of swords not the duel of councils.

Why did this commission override this particular instance? There has been a rash of no-shows, and this was just another one. What makes this one any different?

From what I see, the commission forced their decision through on the basis that the Baroness asked a question and not all of us answered. This is absurd.

Damien did nothing wrong, yet he is the one who is inconvenienced. The Baroness herself has acted as a hypocrite and attempted anything to weasel out of the forfeiting of her ring. The commission has even supported it.

We reached a decision, and they overturned it because of the Baroness' whining. It makes me sick.
