They sat talking with the newly ringed baroness, during a recent challenge match, two old friends united after a long time apart. Though their tones were normal, even the baroness, could tell that thier outward expressions hid something dark. As the match continued, they said less and less, till Lyon ask his old friend for a personal favor. With speed Daegarth answered, assuring Lyon of his help. The subject was left at that until the end of the match. As the arena began to empty, Lyon turned to Dae, informing him that the favor had not been named, and that it carried with it much responsibilty. The Shadowmage reassured Lyon that what ever it was, his old friend would do for him. Lyon's mood grew darker as he began to name the favor. " My spirit is troubled, Dae. All the failures to ye and the House have weighed heavy upon this spirit. The process to free this spirit have been started. I need yer help to finish. " Daegarth was tooken back by Lyon's words. A moment of saddness broke his stoney expression. "But old friend, ye know ye are forgiven for those failures. In mine eyes ye are as ye were the first we meet. There is nae cause for this..." " I know ye have forgiven me, but I can not come to forgive myself for none of it. I ask as yer brother and friend. Help me free this spirit..." For the first time in a long time, Daegarth was at a lose for words. In his heart he did not want this to happen, but seeing Lyon's determination, he knew there was nothing to do but help his brother. For a while they sat and spoke of old times, better times, until the outside world began to rise at the light of day. They both promised to return the next night to duel for one last time. As Daegarth summoned the shadows to carry him to his home, the full understanding of what was to come was realized...

The climb up the sheer facing of the mountain had always been a pleasure for him, and this time was no different. But once the climb had ended, his mood changed. As he stood at the top, over looking the valley below him, he could not help but wish things could end another way. There was much to this life and land that he would miss.

He replayed the conversation he had had with Daegarth over in his mind. As always, his brother had tried to bring him comfort. Lyon could see the pain in Dae's eyes when the gravity of what had been asked was fully understood. He could not fault Dae for his attempts to sway him from his path, for Lyon would surely have done the same had the roles been reversed. The Gods had been kind in one regard, however, for allowing the bond that existed
between himself and Daegarth.

"Its a perfect time of year" he said to himself. The fall was his favorite time of year. Because of the unseasonablely warm weather, the trees had not turned full color yet, though there still was enough of a turning to satisfy him. And this was his favorite place in all the world. From this spot one could look out to sea and watch the sunset upon the waters. Looking heavenward, he could see that the sun was preparing itself for the final leg of
its journey across the sky. He sat down on the great rock and started to prepare himself as well.

As he sat down, he pulled the backpack from his shoulders and set it down next to him. Reaching inside it, he found the object of his search. It was still wrapped as he pulled it from its cell and laid it across his lap. There was no hurry to unwrap it just yet.

He found it hard not to let his mind wander. Had everything been taken care of? He had given Dae instructions of what to do afterward. His apologies had been made. Good-byes were said. There was nothing more he could think of. With a shake of his head, he forced himself to throw such thoughts off. Everything was taken care of. Now was a time of peace and prayer, and that was how he would spend his last hours.

For now, he was content to just sit and soak in the beauty around him. The colors below him, the sun ready to set, the sound of the song birds not far from him. It was indeed, a good day to die. The Gods had been kind to him one more time. It would not be long before he opened the mind-link he shared with Dae and summoned him here. The hour was fast approaching...............
