::Morte sat in the solar at House Oakenshield. She looked worn out from lack o' sleep, drained from the sudden changes. She looked out the window at the warm morning sun, tryin to gather her thoughts.::"Marme!" ::Morte heard Aisalin's voice behind her. She turned in her chair as her Aisalin and Agravain walked solemnly to her. "Marme, me and Aggy must tell you that we do not like you living here." ::Aggy nodded his head soberly. Morte smiled at her children's words, findin it difficult to explain to them the events o' the last few days. Her mind looked for the words and was interrupted by "Slain's tuggin at her sleeve.::"Marme," ::'Slain whispered:: "Aggy and me will take care o' everything, we promise!" ::The twins looked slyly at each other, smilin. Morte stands, takin their hands in hers.::"You must just let this work out, sweeties. Tis nae for ye to worry about.....promise?"::Two small heads nod together with smiles for their mother on their sweet faces. Behind their backs, four hands with fingers crossed, conceal their intent from Morte.::

Aislin Uziel feels the mud squish through her toes as she wades out into the Lake. Agravain sits up on the bank, whittling a fishing pole as he protectively watches his twin sister. Behind them Oakenshield Manor rise gracefully from the meadow, its many windows catching the late autumn sunlight and shining like gold eyes watching over the two seven year old children.

"What are we going to do Aggy?" Aislin drops her skirts in a vain attempt to catch a frog as it darts past her calf.

"We could kidnap Marme and make her come back home." Aggy suggests hopefully, "I could carry her off."

"Oh Aggy!" Aislin splashes after the frog soaking her pink dress to a dark red. "Don't be silly, kidnap Marme? That won't make Morgan come back. I know, lets get rid of Elle! Morgan will stop feeling sad and living in the cottage. Marme will come home."

She stops chasing the frog and turns back to her brother, her liquid black eyes filling with tears as she clasps her hands together, "I wish for Marme and Morgan and you and me to live together like always. I wish for us to live happily ever after and never ever leave each other."

Aggy looks at his sister for a long time; her wishes suspended between them on a fragile thread of hope. "Don't worry 'Slain, I will make it right. Morgan loves us and so does Marme. Everything will be all right."

She wades back to him and joins him on the bank, "I know, let's tell Elle she is hurting us. That she needs to go away. If she wont," takes a deep breath, "Let's kill her."

Aggy wraps his small arms around his sister as they sit huddled on the bank. ""Slain don't be silly."

Her heart shaped face becomes hard as her small jaw tightens, a childlike rendition of her mother Morte's stubbornness. "No, I heard about how to do it yesterday in the Arena. Lord Huma said his baby died. Marme and Aunt Khrys said they could not bring it back because the baby had never entered the land of RhyDin. It was still inside Lady Aja. We kidnap Elle, take her away from RhyDin, and then kill her."

Aggy becomes very still. His face, a reflection of his blood father Adonai, the Blue eyes quiet, "I don't know 'Slain. You won't even fish cause you don't want to kill them. How you going to kill a person? I just don't know."

She turns to her brother, tears spilling down her rosy cheeks, "I can do it. I will do it by myself. That way only one of us goes to hell. Elle is killing Marme, you, me, Morgan and everybody: I will stop her and go to hell."

Aggy hugs her quietly vowing. "We will always stay together. If you go to hell, so will I."

A shout from the house breaks their embrace. Jeffrey Oakenshield calls down, "Summer found honey cakes. Ya mamma said ya might like some before ya go home."

"Honey Cake?" The two children squeal as they leap up. Laughing delightedly, they race up to the house leaving their conversation seemingly forgotten as it hangs in the air by the still waters of the lake.

Agravain followed Elle from the arena, hardly believing that it had been so easy to get her to come. They stopped in the road to let 'Slain and Brian to catch up. "Where to, Slain?" Aggy asked. Aislain smiled at Elle and said "Follow Me!" They started up the woods, happily swinging their basket. Aislain's red curls bounced as she walked next to Brian, her pink skirts rustling. Elle looked down at Aggy merrily, pointing at Aislain and Brian, whispering, "Looks like love, eh?". Aggy smiled up the her, secretly having a crush on her, and nodded. Agravain's mind was confused. On the one hand, they needed to get rid of Elle to make everything right again. Aggy sighed, but he really liked Elle and would not want to hurt her. Aislain and Brian walked into the garden at the cottage where Morte used to live. They skipped across the grass, Aislain's pink sparkly skirts dancing about her. She was just about to open the door when Elle inquired as to where they were. Aisalin turned to Elle and smiled, "This was Marme's cottage before we came back home to her and Morgan." Elle hesitated. "Mayhaps we should jest picnic outside, sweets, Morte may na want us a messin' up 'er house, now would she?" Not waiting for an answer, she sat down on the soft grass and stretched out her legs. Aislain frowned slightly, recovering quickly, "Alright, ", she set down the basket, her eyes darting to Aggy's. Brian looked at Agravain and Aislain, and took a peek into the basket. His eyes widened, "Mmmm...Honey Cakes!". They all laughed at Brian's remark, while Aislain unpacked the basket. She handed Aggy a blanket and told him to lay it out. 'Slain handed a box of honey cakes to Brian to hold, while she distributed the cups. Brian set the box of honey cakes in the middle of the blanket, sitting down close to the box. Elle laughed softly, watching Brian maneuver close to the food. While Elle's attention was on Brian, Aislain pours something from a small vial into the cup, then filled it with a tart juice. Aislain hands the cup to Elle, "Here you go, Ma'am". As Aislain turned to go fill the other cups, Elle drinks the juice, making a sour face. "Auch.. it sure be tart!" Aislain nods to Elle, her dark liquid eyes shifting to Aggy's. Elle takes another drink, leaning back in the grass to rest on her arm. She looked at Brian, raising an eyebrow, the liquid swiftly taking effect. Her head dropped back onto the grass, her soft snores heard by the children. Brian's eyes widen. "Did ye kill her?" he whispers. Aggy shook his head. "No, silly, we just need her to go away so Marme and Morgan will come back home. Then we can be a family again." Aggy looked at 'Slain. "How're we gonna get her inside now?" Aislain looks at the area, "She's not very big, maybe we can roll her on to the blanket and pull her in." She frowned briefly, "I think that would work it we all pulled." Aggy and Brian nodded to her and waited while she repacked the basket. Then they pulled the blanket next to Elle. Aislain looked seriously at the boys, wiping her hands on her pretty pink skirt. "We roll her onto the blanket on three." Everyone nodded solemnly. "Okies, 1.....2.....3" The children push together, slowly rolling Elle onto the blanket. They stand, sweat and dirt smeared across their faces. "Now, what?" Brian asks. "Now," Aislain says "we grab that end of the blanket and pull her over to the door." Brian looked across the 15 feet to the cottage door, thinking that it looked like a thousand miles. He looks into 'Slain's eyes and smiles, "Okies!" He stood in the middle and grabbed the blanket with both hands. Aislain looks at the boys holding the blanket, "Ready?" The boys nodded. Together they pulled on the blanket, it slowly beginning to move. After much sweating, whispers, and rests they finally manage to pull Elle's still sleeping form over to the door. Aislain opens the door on the cottage, its unused hinges creaking eerily. The children enter the cottage and grab the blanket, pulling Elle inside. Aislain ran outside to grab the basket and quickly shut the door.

As she raised the drink to her lips, her nose caught the faint smell of an unfamiliar. Yet still, to please the children, she drank it... her face twisted into a sour expression.. and minutes later she felt nothing.

Her dreams consisted of the usual array of lofty men, dancing about her and laying passionate kisses upon her full lips.. her subconscious paraded about in its lusty display of excitement..

Aislain stood in a dusty puddle of gold light by the bed. Breathing in the dust and damp of the abandoned cottage, she stood over Elle clutching a pillow in both of her small fists. She could hear the boys behind her in the main room. They raided the picnic basket, hungry from their exertions. Aislain bit her small pale lip. The expression of her heart shaped face flickered with conflicting emotions.

Elle's red curls hair spilled around her face over the soft blue bed cover. Her dress lay in loose folds revealed the body of a beautiful young woman. Elle's arms were raised above her, firmly tied to the bed post. Her face was tranquil; her breath escaping through her rosy parted lips. To Aislain she looked romantically beautiful - a Sleeping Beauty transported from a fairy tale into reality. Aislain reached out and touched the satin skin of
Elle's cheek wondering if she dared to steel the life from someone so kind and pretty.

"Aggy save some honey cake for Lainy." Brian said importantly. Aislain could hear a fight break out behind her, the boys tumbling and tussling as they shouted at each other.

"Ninny"

"Cow face"

Taking a deep breath, Aislain closed her eyes and scrunched up her face. She extended the pillow of Elle's face, willing herself to press down, to smother away the life of the equisite fairy princess.

"Do it 'Slain." She whispered to no one.

She pulled back. The sounds of the fight behind her fading as the boys returned to ransacking the picnic basket. The insults replaced by the sounds of munching and good natured jibing.

Aislain steeled her small body fighting the frightend pulsing of her heart. Her childish mind flashed to her reasons:

Lord Var talking about how helpless children were and not to meddle in the affairs of their elders. Aislian was not a child, she was seven and vowed not to be helpless.

Lord Huma's stricken face and tale of how Lady Aja lost their baby, their family;. Aislain would not lose her family.

Aggy's face every night as he tucked her into her bed and kissed her cheek, a child trying to mother and father his twin. Aislain vowed to bring back those who should be tucking them in.

Finally, Adonai's contempt of her, his refusal to acknowledge her. Aislain knew with her childish logic Adonai did not love her because she was ugly and stupid. By protecting her family she could prove to her birth father she was also strong and honorable.

All she had to do was place the pillow over Elle's face. Take the life of the person who was destroying everyone and everything she loved. Aislain feared hell, and knew that when the deed was finished she would burn in the mind of eternity. Pushing away her fear, holding the sight of the pain she saw in Marme's, Aggy's and Morgan's eyes she felt purpose enter her frail body.

Her small cheeks flushed pink while her black eyes grew luminous. Slowly she extended the pillow, again letting it hover inches above the helpless Elle. Elle's emerald eyes fluttered open.

"Lainy what are you doing?" A cracked voice said behind her. Aislain whirled around, her skirts tangling in her small legs to see Brian standing in the doorway, a half-eaten honey cake in his hand.

As she awoke in the strange cottage, having forgotten at the moment all sense of direction, her instinct was to run.. she started to sit up, but found her hands tied.. her brow creased.. a wave of nostalgia running through her veins.. a slight panic overtaking her. Then she heard voices.. not the voices from so long ago, rather the small, high pitched voices of children.. her memory instantly flooding back.. her lips turning upward in a smile of relief, inwardly cursing herself for having been so foolish. As her eyes adjusted to the light, she found herself face to face with Aislain, Morte's dear daughter."Ahh.. lass.. ye had me scared out o' m' heels there fer a time... what in th' he..", quickly catching herself, making a wise decision as to carefully choose her words around the small girl.. "What in th' realm are ye doin' with tha' pillow?" She laughed softly, regarding the child as being full of innocence. "An' why am I tied like this? Ye should 'ave tol' me tha' we were playin' a game.. I would 'ave taught ye how te tie one o' those neat little knots with th'.." She rambled on for a few more minutes.. until she saw what looked to be like a bit of frightened nerve from Aislain. "Now.. if ye will, le's get these ropes untied.." She gave the child her best smile, watching her as best she could while she untied the ropes.. Brian stepping in from the kitchen area... his boyish eyes wide... the remnants of a honey cake littering the floor around him, bits straying around his mouth as well. As Aislain untied the ropes, her eyes dropped to the floor, stammering slightly as she spoke.. "Miss Elle, I.. eh.. I told Aggy to tell ye about our game.. I guess he didn't. Sorry." The girl turned and stormed into the kitchen.Sitting up and gently rubbing her wrists where they were bound, her brow creased in thought. I may be a bit spacey in th' head.. but my mind works just fine as it is, she thought. Those kids are up to something.. and it's high time I found out what. With an almost stern look on her face, she stood from the wooden bed and made her way into the kitchen, determined to find the cause of their antics.

Brian watched wide eyed as Lainy held the pillow just above Elle's face. "Lainy, what're ya doin'?" Looking behind her as she turned, her legs getting caught and twisted in her long pink skirts, Brian nearly dropped the forgotten honey cake that he had been bringing to her. 'Miss Elle was tied ta tha bed.... and..... ' "Brian," 'Slain looked at him through dark eyes for a moment as he stood frozen in the doorway. She turned away again as Elle opened her eyes. Turning even as 'Slain turned away, Brian walked from the cottage to sit on the front steps. Looking up at the stars in the darkening sky, trying to think clearly about what he had seen, he sat with his elbows on his skinny knees, resting his chin in his hands.....' She was gonna... No, a course she wasnae...... Was she?' Taking a large bite of the honey cake, and chewing slowly and thoughtfully, he put it all together in his mind. "Lainy was gonna kill Miss Elle." He chewed a little more and thought a little more, "But I stopped 'er when I walked in." He took another large bite, and thought some more. "But Miss Elle is Mrs Khrys's friend, and she wouldnae like it ifin sumpthun happened to 'er." His little mind did a flip-flop, "But Lainy wants 'er gone." Confused, and seeing that the last of the honey cake was gone, Brian's little tummy rumbled. He sighed as he realized that he was going to be late, again, for supper. 'Mrs. Khrys is really gonna be mad this time.' He thought to himself. Not quite sure of what he he had seen, or what he was going to do about it, he walked back into the small, cozy cottage.

Patrolling the room as an officer would his stakeout point.. she paced back and forth, one hand resting under her chin in thought, the other crossed to support it. Examining each of the child's faces, she registered much different senses from the three. Aislain appeared to be cool, almost fidgety on the outside.. but as Elle examined her closer, she could almost sense a bit of fear from the child. Agravain was trying to mimic Aislain's face and stance, thus making him hard to read. When Brian returned from outside, he sat in a chair slightly apart from the two, his gaze switching sporadically from one to the other.. "Alright.. I want te know what's goin' on with ye three.." She spoke softly, coaxingly, pausing to crouch in front of them as to not make herself so intimidating. "Ye can tell me.. an' I sure can tell tha' it's important.. important enough te 'ave me tied te a bed... if yer truthful.. I'll see what I can do te help ye." With those words, a tiny spark flickered simultaneously in Agravain and Aislain's eyes.. Aislain cleared her throat and began to speak her highly pitched tone.. The story of how Morgan and Morte were involved before Elle returned poured out. With careful patience.. Elle listened to every word the two had to say. They seemed to think that it was Elle's fault that Morgan and Morte were not together. When they finished, Elle explained to them that she didn't share any love for Morgan anymore, and had already spoken to Morte, expressing her best wishes. "Lady Elle..Lady Elle...," her pretty face screwed up as she began to sob, "I was bad. I am sorry I tried to kill you. Very, very, very, sorry. Now you are going to be mad at me. Am I in trouble now? I do not want to be spanked." Her small hands fall behind her as she tried to protect her small rear, "Please, please do not tell Marme and Morgan." Placing her warmest smile possible on her face, almost unable to suppress laughter at the girl's worries.. she gave both Agravain and Aislain a gentle hug.. as Brian began to lose interest, turning his attention once again to the honeycakes. "Ahh.. forgiven afore it e'en happened.. I give ye m' word tha' Morte an' Morgan will know nothin' o' this.." She grinned faintly, her own grin catching, and soon Morte's children shared the same.

Agravain sat on the bed in the cottage listening to Elle explain what she had told Marme and Morgan. After she was finished, she had smiled and hugged him and 'Slain. Agravain puts his chin in his hands and stared at the floor. He didn't understand why Morgan and Marme weren't living at the Lodge with 'Slain and him. Agravain sighed deeply. Elle put her hand on his shoulder, gently reassuring him. "Aggy, what be the matter now, lad?" she softly whispered. " Dunna worry, it will all come out te rights in the end." She reached out and lifted his dejected face to look at her, " Mayhaps ye should be tellin yer Mother te let ye both live with her at House Oakenshield til things work out. Ye like it there, aye?" Aislain clapped her hands, her dark eyes finally shining with hope. "Yes, Miss Elle, we love to visit Marme there!" Agravain looked from Elle to 'Slain, realizing that even if Morgan couldn't be there, atleast Marme would, and maybe.....just maybe Morgan would come looking for him and 'Slain there. He smiled slowly, nodding his head, " Aye, Elle....we will go and talk to Marme." Aggy stood up and started to the door, Elle just catchin his soft voice say "If only Morgan would come....". Elle stands, taking 'Slain and Brian's hands, and walks with them through the small cottage. As Asialin locks the door, Elle watches Aggy walking ahead, already on the path through the woods. She shakes her head sadly wondering to herself why Morte and Morgan have not seen how very sad the children are. Aislain tugs lightly on Elle shirt, " Will you walk back through the woods with us, Miss Elle?". Her pink dress sparkling in the late afternoon sun, 'Slain tilts her head just like Morte would as she asks her question. Elle smiles to 'Slain and Brian, taking their small hands in hers. "Aye, luvs....let's go find yer Mother."

::Morte walks down the path towards Morgan's home, her thoughts on her children and Morgan. She had noticed the sadness in Aggy and 'Slain's eyes earlier when they had visited her at House Oakenshield. After they had gone, Morte realized that she had been distant from her children, not intentionally leaving them out of her life. She paused in her walk.Looking down at the dirt path, she noticed a pink rose laying crushed and bruised, blocking her way. Morte knelt down, her hand reaching out to pick up the rose. Her heart remembered the day she had dropped the rose here, in her mind she saw Morgan riding up the path towards her.::Morgan road lightly down the path on his horse. His black cloak flowing lightly behind him over the horses hump. He slowed, brushing his red locks behind him upon seeing Morte. He studied her for a moment. She would be happy to here his news. He motioned the horse forward, pushing a smile to his lips..his emerald eyes sparkling. Upon reaching her he dismounted, glancing to her nervous..yet sparkling eyes..:: "Good day..I've come to give you good news. You children are coming home..to me." He glanced around the glade..and then wrapped a slender arm around Morte..and leaned down kissing her cheek before saying.."Ele would want me to be happy Morte. Adonai is in much pain for what you did..but he doesn't understand, your children will once I tell them. You will have your family back. I will see to that. I've summoned them to return here, to Silver Castle.."Morte raised a hand to her cheek where Morgan had kissed her, a single tear making a track down her pale face. She had not heard from Morgan since right after Elle had returned, and her thoughts had turned over and over. She loved Morgan.....she knew that, but she didn't know if he loved her. The one thing Morte was sure of was that the twins needed a mother and a father now, not at some more convienent time. She had spoken to Jeff and Summer, Morte would bring the twins to live with her at the big house. Morte stood slowly in the fading sunlight, the rose falling from her hand....a symbol of the dream she carried in her heart.

::Morgan sat within the nights chill. The fires crackling resounding aroun him. He held a piece of crusty bread idly in his hand. Yet, his eyes stared into the flames..dark, and burning almost themselves. His mind thought about what had happened. Elle didn't want him anymore..she didn't love him anymore. He promised himself he woudl not turn into another Ky Redwing. He sighed, taking another bite of the bread..then there was Morte. One who loved him
with all her heart, and her children. Which he had saved, and wanted him to be Papa. He actually smiled a little within his dimness. Aislan was beautiful. Someone he wouldn't mind calling Daddy's little girl. Agravaine..would be a proud son, if Morgan could teach him to fuel his anger correctly. He chuckled..he and Aislan might be as stronger or stronger than him and Darnoc. He stood, tossin ghte bread in the fire, the flames licking it up hungrily.
Morgan run a hand through his hair and sighed. Its time I go home..its time I be with the ones who love me.:: "I just hope..i'm not too late Morte. I'm coming home.." :;then he turned and grabbed his horse. He pulled his long dark cloak tigher about him and slid onto his black stallion. He turned and then spurred the horse as a skin-biting and tiring speed down the path..he was coming home..please, he thought, please still be there. As he rode, he
sent a dream to Aislan's mind. Of Morgan riding thunderously down the beaten path. His red hair seemingly on fire within the moon light, his cloak furling all about him. Eyes sparkling emerlad and fire..his voice whispering.."Papa is coming home.."

Morte sits in the chair in front o' the fire in her room at the House. Her eyes are mesmerized bythe fire, her thoughts siftin through the events of the evening. She had come to feel very close to Badger in the last few days, she had felt his compassion and caring for her in the picnic meadow. Until last night, she had not realized who he was. She had thought him a funny, handsome Irishman....a swordbrother and friend. Then he had handed her the wooden box containin the elven longbow and her world had tilted, the vision o' the Goddess' last spoken words to her becoming clearer and hitting the mark in her heart. Morte stood before the Goddess, feelin a hard tug on her soul. She felt as if she was being forced to move away from the Goddess, her soul drawn from this plane. Morte called to the Goddess in her fear. The Goddess appeared, her beautiful golden skin glowed lighting the glade , her melodic voice speakin softly in Morte's mind. ' I have decided that I had been affronted long enough in Rhy-Din, child. It is time that those who are evil remember who is the power in Rhy-Din. I have communed with The Prime Mover, and he has allowed me one random thread that I may add to the tapestry. I have chosen you as that thread’. Morte looked astonished. ‘I am not worthy o’ this honor, Lady.’ Morte had replied. ‘ Tis an honor and a burden, my child, but through this you can be redeemed and set free from the darkness o’ the Valheru demon. I can not interfer to deliver you, yet I would tell you these things to guide you. The demon will try to tempt you to stray from your path, to destroy the means of your redemption and to abolish my name in Rhy-Din.You must be wise. You are the Arrow of the Goddess. The arrow can not hit it’s mark without a bow to sent it, my dear, one can not function without the other.. I have prepared for this day, Morte.... yet you must open your heart and seek the one who will champion you. I have given all I can, my child, you must trust yourself’. The Goddess smiled at Morte slowly fading from her mind, her partin words growin softer as Morte was pulled faster towards the earthly plane. ‘ A bow for the arrow...... and you can only be redeemed by love.Morte sat quietly, the words of the Goddess ringing in her head. The heat from the fire was hot on her flesh, the mark on her forehead showing plainly against her pale skin. The mark had changed Badger had told her. “Morte, your mark.It changed. It's different.” He blinked. “ It seems to be a bow and arrow.”She had looked at it closely in the mirror in her room, holdin her hair back so she could see it clearer in the candlelight. It had changed, the skin turnin a dark red and the image seemed sharper....it was a drawn bow with an arrow fletched in it. Morte had to sit then, and she had been sittin here since looking like a sculpture of alabaster. She went over the last weeks again in her thoughts. She had met Morgan again. Morte had been totally unprepared to come upon him alive again, like her. Her heart had lept in her chest, rememberin on it’s own that she had loved him once, in the spring. Morte had thought at the time that their rebirths had been the sign the goddess had spoken of. She had told Morgan of her love of him in the past, believeing herself to still be in love with him. He had been surprised, and had spoken to Morte of his love for Elle and his loss at findin her gone. After Morgan had reunited Morte and the twins, she had been almost sure that this was the right path. Then Elle had suddenly returned to Rhy-Din, and the world had tilted sideways. Morgan had left not tellin Morte if he would return or not. And Morte, devastated, moved into House Oakenshield to recover. Here she had found peace, love and friendship. Morte smiled briefly, rememberin as Cat, then Badger had joined her here. Catlaen was an old friend and helped Morte to smile and get on with it. Badger had been a new friend. Over the last week fate had brought them together time and again. She smiled as she tilted her head, rememberin the note he had sent her. The picnic had been good for the twins, and Badger had begun to help Morte talk about the past, the children, and the present. He had broken down the wall around her soul.

Aislain lies in her bed next to Agravain's drifting in and out of sleep as her childish mind tries to grasp the mysterious ways of grown-ups. It was better to be at Oakenshield Manor with Marme, but they still did not have Morgan. Elle, Summer, and the rest of the adults thought everything was fine. It was not. Aggy and she did not have a papa who wanted them.

But that was not true. everyone adored Aggy, even Adonai had recognized him. Perhaps she is the trouble, the reason no papa wished to keep them. Dispare engulfs her; the troubling thought taking hold and rooting in her mind.

Listlessly she rises from her bed and pushes open the French doors of their small room. The night is strangely warm for autumn; the discordant summer sound of the frogs and crickets serenading the moon the only intrusion on the stillness. Her bare feet feel no discomfort as they slip through the dewy grass towards the lake. Without hesitation, she enters the water. Welcoming her, the water wraps soothingly around her as she wades deeper and
deeper. Her small feet find steps. She descends oddly unconcerned as the water sweeps closed over her head.

She glides down the stairs into the Arena. A single ring glows before her, illuminated from within. Adonai Uziel waits for her, his sword drawn and ready. Her small hand curves around the roses carved into the pommel of her small wooden sword. She joins her birth father, sliding into the ring as her white night dress billows around her small legs.

"Duke Uziel and his daughter Aislain, the Ring of Truth." Lupton's voice drifts from the darkened caller's couch.

"Honor to you, Aislain," The first words the Duke has ever spoken to her swallow her whole. His pale blue eyes look off into the distance at a spot over her head as he twirls his sword.

Aislain nods, struck dumb by his nearness. Quickly she ducks as Adonai's blade swings high, brushing against her soft red curls in a caress. "The daughter ducks under the Father's opening, advantage to the little one. Round 1 - .5-0" Lupton sardonically drawls.

Encouraged Aislain darts forward attempting to slam the wood of her sword against Adonai's shins. With serene grace, he drops his blade and pushes her back effortlessly.

"The Father catches the little one before she bites, to his advantage. Round 2 - Advantage to all."

Adonai for the first time looks into her eyes. He casts aside his sword and opens his arms. Unable to stop herself, Aislain lunges forward, thrusting her blade deep into his belly. Terrified, she releases the sword, leaving it to rest in the wound. Adonai's proud face is tranquil as his blood drips down his legs into an ever enlarging pool at his feet. Lupton's laughter shakes around them mockingly as he mutters, "To think he has two of them."

The pool of blood enlarges until it stains the hem of her white night gown. Slowly it soaks into the cloth and creeps up the skirt to her waist. As if alive, the blood covers her, the warm sticky fluid penetrating her pores.

"Do not worry little one. It is only our blood." Adonai says quietly, even as he begins to melt into the red pool at her feet. Soon there is nothing left but her small wooden sword floating in the blood on the sand in the ring.

Aislain sobs covering her eyes. Strong arms lift her and toss her into the air. Screaming and kicking she tries to get away. Soothing words and murmurs calm her hysteria. She opens her eyes and Morgan's laughing face greets her as he swings her around the main room of Silver Castle. Her night gown vanishes, replaced with the pink sparkle dress she had once begged him to buy her at the Market Place.

Reaching up, she slides her small arms around his neck trying to capture him so he can not leave. Morgan carries her to his great chair, the one near the fire where he likes to read. He rocks her gently back and forth.

"I will always love you and Aggy." He whispers.

Aislain pleads, "We are at Oakenshield Manor, please come get us. Please take us back. I miss you - papa."

Morgan kisses her cheek, as Aislain buries her small face into his shoulder, smelling his comforting scent.

"You will always be my Princess."

Aislain tilts her heart shaped face up, wanting to see in his eyes and suddenly she is alone in cold chilly dark place.

"Papa?" She calls softly opening her mouth to an icy flood of water.

She thrashes in water, trying to find the surface. Her small hands clench around nothing but the hollow sound of her own heart beating. A bow and arrow glow before her eyes. Her hand reaches desperately out for it as her lungs burst and the last thought slips from her mind, "I do not want to die."

And then last night at the Academy it seemed that the world had righted itself. The Goddess had spoken to Morte and Badger, the Arrow of the Goddess had found her StrongBow. As theyhad talked of their pasts, they had realized that each one held pieces to the others puzzle. Badger had given her the longbow that the wood elves had sent to her and told her their words:"Let the hand of the Goddess be free againThe Arrow of the Goddess bringPeace to the Land.”Morte looked at the Elven Longbow leaning against the desk, reassuring herself that it had all been real and not a dream. It had been after he had said the poem that Morte had made the connection. She was the Arrow, and he was Bdager StrongBow. She had the bow in her hand and her champion standing before her. She had been wrong about Morgan, he was sent for teach the twins. She would always love him, but this catalyst had shown Morte where her heart and her path really lay. She did not know how she would explain any of this to the twins, her friends or Morgan. All she knew was that she had never been so ceratin of anything before in her life. She stood up and walked to the door. It was very late and Morte walked quietly to Badger’s door and knocked. He answered the door, his shirt unbuttoned but still wearin his boots. He smiled at her and asked, “Ye couldnae sleep either, love?” Morte smiled up at him shakin her head. “Nae, I be thinkin mayhaps ye’d go with me te check the twins?” He took her hand and pulled the door closed, and they walked quietly to the twin’s room. Morte opened the door and they looked in. Aggy was softly snorin, his small body wrapped around his pillow. And Aislain was.....GONE! Morte heart beat hard in her chest. “Badger...where’s Aislain?” Morte’s voice had a worried edge to it. Bdager looked around the room, noticing the open french door. He turned back to Morte. “ Ye look for her in the house, I’ll go and check the grounds” . Morte nodded quickly as he ran out the door callin “Aislain”. Morte checked the room well, and was headed out into the hall when she heard Badger shout to her “Morte! Hurry!” Morte hurried out into the back grounds, her eyes full of fear for her child.

Thrusting air bites her lungs. The air stops, as large hands turn her face. Helplessly she retches; the sick stench of lake water surrounding her as she throws up.

"Thank the Goddess." Badger breaths, to himself as the child gasps for air. Quickly he gathers her frail body in his arms and begins to run back to the mansion.

Morte appears on the verandah, her voice, crying and edged with hysteria. "Badger? Be that 'Slain? Be she well?"

Badger looks down at the blue white face, still but for the small mouth that seems to be gasping for breath. He looks over at Morte comfortingly even as he carries the dripping Aislain into the Main Hall, "Aye Morte luv, I found her floatin in the lake. I think she be fine, we need to get her warm."

Morte catches her breath, trying to calm herself as Badger takes her daughter to the fire. Summer comes running with blankets, and Jeff goes to the kitchen to order up a heated bath.

Aislain's black eyes flutter open and she looks for the first time upon her rescuer. Badger's face is full of worry even as he keeps his voice even, "What e'er in the Goddess where you doin in the lake, 'Slain?"

She manages a weak smile, "Looking for papa."

Feeling strangely content and safe as Badger's face is replaced by Marme's she drifts out of consciousness thinking that she must tell Aggy that we will be all right.
