Something had gone wrong. That was certain.
Obviously he cared about the DoF. Well, it had seemed that way. He had wanted that Opal so vehemently in the past as well. He had just gone through a whole bunch of experiments and the like with it, taking all of his time for days and days.
He stopped doing that once he went to fight Roland for the 12th ring in DoS. When he came back and had to face the challenge from Fala, he felt....weird. His mind kinda, well, didn't feel like doing anything. The Opal felt repulsive. Fighting with one's fists seemed stupid. He just decided to mail away the stone in the mail, not caring if someone ripped it off while it was being delivered, as well as declare his retirement. He just didn't care
about anything related to the DoF. Was it the Opal? Was it the Barony? Was it a reaction between the two? Or was it just Walker having a genuine change of heart?
As much as Walker didn't care about the DoF, he seemed to care more and more about the goings on in the DoS. The Overlord incident was getting all of his attention, and he spent many hours writing and copying letters to be sent to the Council as well as posted to the boards. Perhaps it was just a shift in attitude?
Or was it the work of something else?
Nothing seemed to be certain.
What the heck is wrong? (Walker)
