A Christmas Rebellion...

From: Valmion

Valmion sat behind the large oak desk, looking out the window of his study in Questrion Manor. He had come back to RhyDin Town and the manor house due to the most recent developments in the Arena. With Baron Dragonbane's declaration of Renegade, and the subsequent moves by both Ulath and Moralitor, it seemed that House Questrion was once more engulfed in turmoil.

Valmion could not help but smile a moment as he thought about how things in RhyDin never seem to change, how everyone always thought the worst of every situation. This was one of those times, and even the King of Questrion himself, knew he had only inflamed the matters, with his sharp rebuttals to those early rumors.

Now it was a short five days later and situation was worse as he thought about the reports he had read on the events of the Annex last Sunday eve. Dalamar had taken the move as personal and spoken out publicly against the situation. From the reports Valmion knew that House Questrion was in for it's biggest challenge, a challenge that could define his house and it's code of honor, a defining challenge that he looked forward to.

He turned from the window and looked to the parchments laying on his desk. Ulath had received two challenges in as many days and rumors flooded the arena of the challenges that will be issued to both Barons, Huma and Moralitor. His own challenge to the Baron Faline had been confirmed, and now he awaited the baron's response.

He reached for his cup of hot coffee, turning once more to the window, the snow falling hard outside, a white blanket covering the gardens of the manor. It seemed once more that Valmion was the villain to those in RhyDin, that this whole situation was one of his making and designs. He sipped at the coffee, watching the snow fall, knowing that this Christmas season would be one that the Arena would remember for awhile.

From: Arlingond

The young prince walked up to the gates of Questrion Manor, his cloak pulled tight about him, warding off the snow that fell upon RhyDin Town. As he walked up to the gate, two guards bowed, speaking in unison, "Welcome your highness". Arlingond smiled at them and stepped through the gates, making his way down the path towards the house. He looked up and noticed his father standing at the study window and thought about this current situation that
Questrion found itself in.

He had kept quiet about the situation, but knew eventually what his role would be, and he wondered if he was ready for it. Not the winning of the match, but the responsibility of attaining that goal. Too many people had jumped to the wrong conclusion about Questrion's renegade status, bringing acts into motion that would have waited for a more proper time.

Arlingond stepped up the marble stairs and nodded to the guards posted outside the door, who responded as did those back at the main gate. As the prince stepped through the double doors and down the hallway towards the tavern, his silver gaze noted the additional security in the manor. His father had taken this matter seriously and Arlingond could only wonder where it was all going to lead.

The tavern was empty, save a couple servant lads mopping the floor, as he walked in. Both the boys quickly turned to the prince and bowed, their admiration of Valmion's son evident in their faces as they did so. Arlingond smiled to them both and gestured that they leave the tavern, both quickly taking their mops and buckets and doing so at the young prince's request. The smell of coffee led Arlingond to the bar, where he poured himself a cup.

"The next few days should prove to be most interesting," he thought to himself as he stirred in a spoonful of sugar to the mug. He then took the coffee and went to a table and sat down, picking up a issue of the RhyDin Times that was laying there, flipping to the dueling pages. "Stay out of it as long as you can Arlingond," he said softly to himself as he started to catch up on everything.

The mage moved about the ring, his silver staff twirling before him, the dwarf moving to counter, both his hands locked on the hilt of the silver longsword. Moralitor feinted a thrust, which the dwarf reacted to with a step to one side, allowing the mage to swing low and sweep his feet from under him, gaining a point and the lead in the match.

"Well done," the dwarf chuckled, picking himself up quickly and turning to face the baron once more. "Your skill is admirable m'lord baron," the dwarf said, with a hint of sarcastic humor in the tone of the words.

The mage just smiled, moving to his right, his black and silver robes flowing behind him as he looked for another opening in Thoradain's defense. The dwarf moved to counter as the mage made spun the staff low in a parry, one of his favorite counters. Thoradain then rolled forward and under the circular spinning staff, grabbing the mage's ankle with his right hand and bringing Moralitor to the sand for a full point.

"Don't get too cocky," Thoradain laughed, coming to his feet and turning to face the mage, who also stood quickly, turning to the dwarf and inclining his head. "Well done Thoradain". The dwarf smiled from behind his long gray beard, saluting the baron with his longsword. Moralitor bowed to him as he spoke, "Shall we retire for a cool beverage warlord"?

"Ah yes m'lord baron, that would be a wise idea," the dwarf replied, sheathing the sword over his back, then dusting off the black leather armor he wore as he stepped from the ring. Moralitor's staff vanished as he followed Thoradain from the ring. "To the tavern then my friend," the mage said, patting the dwarf on the shoulder and heading to the stairs.

Opposition to the Christmas Rebellion...

From: LordovDale

The Overlord sat quietly at the large oaken table in his study. It was late and he had been stewing in his thoughts for hours without so much as a movement of his finger. The occurences of the past few days whirled through his head, a cyclone of thoughts, as he tried to clear his mind and make sense of what had been happening. He had been told many times by many people that Questrion could not be trusted, but he had been good friends with Valmion
since they both got started in the arena. He could remember the tournaments at Questrion, Valmion's wife Alaisia, and Arlingond in his youngest days, but all of this seemed so far away now.

Right now the only thing that mattered was how his friends had turned on him. Be it political or not, friendship should surpass everything else and guarantee loyalty to one friend from another. That was atleast what he believed, but as his reign lengthened and more of his supposed friends turned on him, he realized that not everyone felt the same way he did.

Ulath had already received two challenges since his betrayal, and Ajay had received one. He had heard rumors that Ajay was joining up with Questrion now, and it bothered him since Ajay's betrayal, for whatever reasons, still stung him more than any of the rest. He knew in his heart that he would take Ajay back if he wanted to return his loyalty, but the possibility of that seemed non-existent. All it would take was a word and the rest of the
Questrion renegades would be put to the test until they were removed. He thought long and hard about whether this was a war worth fighting. He had played both warrior and diplomat before in his life, and he knew not which one to play this time.

The scene with Valmion in the arena, with Moralitor during his challenge, and Ajay afterwards all hit him like a ton of bricks. He vivdly remembered everything he felt: the anger, the frustration, the hurt. He looked down to the letters to true friends of his sitting infront of him at the oaken table and he made up his mind. With a mystical word and a wave of his hand the letters were sent off to their destinations. He looked out the large glass
window across from him, at the beautiful moonlit lake, and knew what he had done was right. Their betrayal, be it for the right reasons or the wrong ones must not go without reponse. He whispered softly to himself. "Vengeance is mine, and I will repay..."

A Christmas Rebellion...

Valmion followed his nose down the stairs and into the tavern area of Questrion Manor. The smell of breakfast cooking and coffee brewing was more than he could stand. Stepping into the large room, he saw that the mage, Moralitor, was the one who had the servants up and active so early this morning.

"Good morning Baron," Valmion said with a bit of a smirk, bringing a chuckle from the mage who enjoyed his liege addressing him as such. This had been a joke between the two a few years back when the mage had worn the 9th Ring. "What has you up and about so early," Valmion asked as he took the coffee a young woman had poured for him. He smiled at her and turned, walking over to the table where Moralitor sat.

"Thoughts on everything that has happened of late m'lord," Moralitor said with a bit of a sigh, reaching down and lifting the mug of hot tea to his lips. He took a sip of the tea, sitting the mug down and looking to Valmion. "I am going to challenge the Overlord."

Valmion stopped and looked to the mage, pausing a moment at the words he had just heard. "What brings you to this decision my friend, for it's just going to fan the flames of mistrust that many feel for Questrion," he asked, moving to the table and taking a seat.

The mage took another sip of tea and looked away from the Lord of Questrion, seeming to ponder a moment the words he was going to speak. This was not something he had ever considered, but the current events surrounding Questrion made him believe that this was the only thing that could right matters.

From: Arlingond

Arlingond moved quietly through the manor, hearing the sounds of cheers coming from the basement, as he knew that his father was downstairs dueling for the House Questrion team against Alec Dameron. He considered going down the stairs and looking in, but changed his mind, as he had told his father he was leaving, it was best to just go.

He had rented a room at the Red Dragon Inn earlier that morning, having made the decision after hearing of the challenge to the mage, Moralitor. He had hoped the mage would recieve a little respect in his plea to the community to await challenging him, he did not expect the challenge to come from a source his father had just stood up for less than a month ago.

It was perhaps this very point that made Arlingond decide to leave Questrion for a time, as he had told the mage and Thoradain, there was no way his father was going to win this fight. He was not making a stand against House Questrion, just that he knew he could not face all the false slander any longer without exploding, and he also knew that would bring harm to Questrion.

He stopped at the front door to the manor one last time, then hearing once more the cheers from the basement, he nodded to the two guards and stepped out into the night. The guards shut the doors to the manor and looked at each other, knowing well that dark times were brewing in the house.

Breunis stood before the full length mirror, reaching up with both hands to tie his long black hair into a ponytail. The admiral had been requested to go to Questrion Manor, by the king, and he wanted to make sure his appearance in the new Questrion Star Fleet uniform was appropriate. He filled out the full length black flight suit quite well, and turning a bit to his right, he admired the silver unicorn crest on the left shoulder. Once satisfied,
he turned from the mirror in his quarters and moved over to the wall where a two handed sword hung over a couch. He reached up and slipped the sword into a sheath on his back and made his way to the door.

A panel slid before him with a hiss, allowing the admiral access to the hall beyond his quarters. Breunis walked out into the hall and nodded to those crew who stopped a moment to greet the admiral. He made his way to a lift and stepped in.

"Deck three," Breunis said softly, the lift responding with silent movement. Stepping from the lift a few moments later, he made his way down the hall towards the transporter room. By now the QSS Black Knight should be directly over RhyDin Town he thought, having given the orders to move to this destination upon receiving the message from Valmion. Breunis stepped through another door, a panel which slid to one side, and entered the transporter
room.

"Good afternoon Admiral," a officer spoke as Breunis entered the room. The admiral nodded in return and then stepped up on the transporter, turning to look at the officer at the controls. "I shall be transporting you just outside the manor walls sir, the wards about the manor prevent any transport within," the officer said, then sliding a lever forward. A shimmering of lights appeared around Breunis before he vanished, appearing once more in the
street outside the gates to Questrion Manor.

"I expect to be challenged very soon." Huma told Aja over breakfast. "this deal with Questrion, and Dalamar, has everyone paranoid. Suddenly, Questrion has turned to an *evil* outlook, according to those in the DoS. Only because, we stand not with the Overlord Dalamar." Huma shook his head, taking a sip of orange juice, looking at Aja, who was just sitting quietly listening. "I don't get it hun..myself, I have a personal difference with Dal, Ulath,
and Moralitor, have their own reasons for their actions." Huma sat a long moment thinking. He wondered why, people of the DoS seem to be *out to get* Questrion now. If he had chosen to be a loyal to Dalamar, noone would have said a word to him, or about Questrion for that matter. But since, his fellow members of Questrion, chose to support him, we then have became the *bad guys*. This thought burned Huma, upsetting him of the mobmentality that has
been genarated. "I wonder who will be the first to step up against me." Huma spoke after taking another sip of OJ. "I don't know babe" Was Aja's reply. Huma pushed away his plate and looked out the window. His thoughts were that of what was happening, he himself, had no intentions of overthrowing Dal, a rumor that he had heard Questrion was up to. He thought to himself, "All I wanted was this ring." Looking down at the ring on his finger. "Now,
Questrion seems to be marked..." Huma glanced to Aja sitting in her chair, finishing her breakfast. "Let them come." He spoke softly as he turned to celebrate the day with his wife.

"Well, look at the logic of it Moralitor," the dwarf said as the two stepped into the tavern, seeing the young prince at the bar and nodding in his direction.

"Logic," Moralitor questioned, moving to a table near the bar, inclining his head to Arlingond and taking a seat. A soft musical incantation followed his sitting, as a cup of hot tea appeared on the table. "Since when has those who reside here in RhyDin looked to the logic in anything, Thoradain."

"Well, if m'lord Valmion was taking a personal issue with the Overlord, his friend; he would have challenged him directly, would he not," the dwarf continued, sitting at the table with the mage, then glancing to the cup Moralitor had conjured. Arlingond sipped his coffee at the bar, listening to the two.

"Instead, m'lord Valmion claims this is a political motive based on the Overlord's intercession policy, and does not question the barons going renegade. This allows Questrion to make a political statement on any intercessions, without taking it to the Overlord directly," Thoradain continues, smiling as Moralitor conjures him a cup of tea also.

"Well it is personal now," the mage said coldly, then sipping from his mug.

"Aye Moralitor, that it is," the dwarf replied, sipping also.

A knock at the study door brought Valmion from his thoughts. "Come," he called as he stood and turned to the door. A young messenger came in and bowed, "Your highness". Valmion smiled and gestured for the lad to speak on.

"This message just arrived for you," the lad said as he hands a scroll to the man across the desk from him. "Also, Admiral Breunis Sans Pite has arrived as the manor, as well as your son," the boy continued, before bowing once more. Valmion smiled a thanks, the lad then turning and leaving, shutting the door behind himself as the King of Questrion unrolled the scroll.

It was a letter from the Baron AJay, concerning his request to join House Questrion. Valmion smiled at the words the Baron wrote, though they also told him AJay would not be joining Questrion. He then sat back down behind the desk, thinking about the situation once more. He hoped that Ulath, Huma and Moralitor could fend off a few of the challenges that would be coming, and perhaps, just perhaps this issue would become more enlightening to those
in the community.

Valmion then reached for the quill and a blank piece of parchment, proceeding to write a quick message to another old friend who might help in this situation. Allies were going to be hard to come by in this conflict, as the words of a few over the last week, had now become the views of many.

"Well I for one think it still does not have to be personal," Arlingond spoke up from the bar. "The whole situation could stay within the realm of intercessions should the Overlord choose it to be that way," he continued, standing and walking to the table. "A lot of hard work building and rebuilding this house over the last few months could be for naught over this," the prince said, sitting at the table with Thoradain and Moralitor.

"The house could also gain from this Arlingond," Thoradain replied, sitting back in his chair and scratching at the long gray beard. Arlingond just shook his head at the words.

"No m'lord, we cannot gain from this. Words in our favor are outnumbered ten to one at present," the prince replied, sitting back himself, looking from mage to dwarf. "Eventually, all the skill in RhyDin will not be enough to fight back a horde of challenges. Eventually our barons will fall to the Overlord's challengers," Arlingond said with a sigh to his words.

"Perhaps Arlingond," the mage spoke up. "But I claimed my latest challenge to be a test under the eyes of the Valar, a test that would prove my heart to be true in my actions. I won this challenge, proving to myself that this was right," he says, with a brow perked to the young Prince of Questrion. "Should we win a few more of these challenges, under such terms, then perhaps others will see the honor in our actions, instead of the mistrust," he
finishes, sitting back for Arlingond's reply.

"I have to doubt that Moralitor, for Sunday night proves another point. Many only remember your calling the Overlord a pig, and not all the insults he cast that brought you to that point," Arlingond says, shaking his head a bit. "Your giving to much credit to folks who attend the duels Moralitor. As sad as it is, your not going to sway public opinion in this."

"So, that explains why Valmion has asked me to the manor," Breunis said, walking into the tavern area. He reached up and unstrapped the sheath from his back, relieving himself of the two handed sword, laying on the length of the bar and then stepping behind to pour a stout.

"Admiral," Arlingond said in greeting, the other two at the table nodding to Breunis also. "So, father has asked you to come and help also, are you not still a commoner," the young prince asked with a sigh.

Questrion's Admiral chuckled and downed the mug of stout he had just poured, reaching up and wiping his mouth. "Aye mate, I am still a commoner, but I guess I will have to work on that," he says, pouring himself another.

Moralitor looked to Arlingond, then to Breunis, before standing from the table. "Well, if you will excuse me, I am going to watch the Overlord Challenge this eve," the baron said, acknowledging everyone, before turning and walking from the tavern, his black and silver robes flowing behind.

The young prince also stood, nodding to both Thoradain and Breunis. "If you will excuse me, I shall also be taking my leave for a bit," he said, turning and following Moralitor from the tavern.

The dwarf stood and walked over to the bar, pouring himself an ale. "I will drink with ye, Admiral," he said with a soft chuckle. "For it seems times are going to be grim around here for awhile."

From: Valmion

Another morning in Questrion had brought about another major change to the house, Valmion having gotten the missive the evening before. He had left word to those who resided in the house, and now sat silently thinking about it himself.

The Questrion Silver team had rebelled against House Questrion. Thorgrim Battlehammer had told Valmion night after night this week about his loyalty to the Lord of Questrion, how he would stick through this with him no matter what, and then, only last eve, letting Valmion know he was taking Questrion Silver and removing it from the house.

Arlingond had taken the news hard, and this morning Valmion was wondering if his son was even going to be talking with him. The Prince of Questrion asked Thorgrim to give him an honorable release from the team, but Valmion doubted his son would partake in the team dueling anymore this season.

Both Zagaroth and Gloria Blaze were left in the dark, as Thorgrim dropped them from the line-up, with no intention of letting them duel. Valmion had to smile a bit, for this was one of the things that Cygnet and others had condemned him for last season, yet with Thorgrim's actions, there was nay a peep.

Valmion then thought of Moralitor's response, when the mage found out that Dex Montoy was one of the new members of the Questrion Silver team. The mage asked Valmion if the warlord decided to join our former team before or after he had come to Moralitor about stepping in against any intercession against the Lady Topaz last eve.

Another day in Questrion was how Valmion approached the whole of this situation. There was naught much he could do to sway public opinion, though he was always taught that those speaking the loudest were usually those at fault. No, he would stay here in the manor, watch how a few of the upcoming challenges panned out and as always with Questrion, take it a day at a time.

Dalamar awoke from his night's sleep after the challenge. The events of the previous day coupled with the deep slumber left him feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. He got dressed and went down to his study to read over some missives and ponder over everything that was happening.

He smiled as he thought of his challenge. As all the records previously held by various other Overlords slipped away and came within his grasp, the opposition of a few people who he believed knew nothing about friendship and loyalty seemed less important to him, but he knew that records needed to be a secondary thought at this time if he hoped to retain the title as he had done so far.

He gazed out the huge glass wall onto the lake, the morning sun coming up over the horizon and shining down on the beautiful scene. He played over the conversation he had with Ajay the previous day, how the Baron had explained everything do him, and their friendship and loyalty had been mutually restored. He was thankful to have Ajay by his side again.

A grin curled onto his lips as his mind wandered to the actions of Thor, Sartan, and the rest of Questrion Silver. He had heard news from his friends that this rebellion would take place, and finally the honorable members of the Questrion house had split off from the backstabbers. He had heard news that made him doubt Thor's loyalty and friendship in the past, but all the actions of the past few days had renewed his faith in him and the other members
of Questrion who broke off from Valmion and the traitors.

He spoke quietly to himself as he idly waved a hand, conjuring himself a cup of coffee... "It seems the tide is again turning... I believe Valmion and his house have finally made their dishonorable sentimentality quite apparent to the public eye. It's only a matter of time now before the Renegades fall under the weight of numerous challenges... I hope."

He sipped his coffee and took out some paper and a pen. He then began to write a series of letters and notes and went on his way to deal with the pressing matters of the day, knowing that despite his victory last night, he was still in for quite a battle in the upcoming months.
