Miniscule puddles of crimson lined the granite floor inside the tattered ruins. For all the destructive prowess contained within his prizes, the withered mage found no source of treatment for the wounds inflicted a few days past. Yet bloody pools of his own life presented less of a concern for him than the strength of the rainbow unleashed. Invisble forces wrenched his innards, pulling and tearing the old man apart
from the inside out. Weakly, he sat, gnarled hands resting upon the necklace where his secret lay chained.

"My servant," began the croaking voice, "you will retrieve the gauntlet of legend, so that I may fulfill my glory. I care not of your methods. Extract information from the half-breed orc or the sorceress as you deem necessary. Do not fail."

It becomes easier by the hour to twist his mind. I fear it may not retain the strength we need should it become necessary to fight, or given time, even to flee.

This one holds great cunning, my brothers. I shall do what I can to aid his search, but I feel he will do our cause a great service.

I believe you, but mortals are often unpredictable at the worst of times. Perhaps we should bring another into our fold, yet I can think of none to trust.

There is none. However, our solution lies in their weakness.

You mean their greed.

It is a rampant plague in this land of anarchy. A bountiful reward will be all that is required for them to trip over each other in the quest for our prize. Their minds cannot possibly find any use for such an item without us, so it will do them no good to withhold the object once it is found.

It will be a simple matter to have word spread to a few key individuals. Once that is complete, rumors of this quest shall flourish as the greatest fires could not have in dreams.

Let it be done.
