Aja walked into her house late that eve. She shut the door and leaned on it looking around her house. Maria had done her usual wonderful job of making sure all the fireplaces were going, and as Aja made her way into the den, she saw her rings on top of the bar. They shone in the firelight, but somehow they seemed less brilliant since she took them off that afternoon. Pouring a drink she sat silently, staring at the rings that she had once worn so proudly. Now, with him gone, there was no more to be proud of. AJ would probably have some good advice, but she didn't know if she was ready to face up to that just yet. Huma had just walked out this afternoon. Maybe in time he would return. But how much time did he expect her to wait? Aja shook her head and sipped her drink. She let her mind go over the incident in the arena, trying to find one shred of reason as to why he got so mad that he left. Being the person she was, she could find nothing wrong with anything that happened. But the fact that he was always murderously jealous did stand out. Could she continue to live with that? Would she want to always be worried that he would go off on a friend for something innocent? Could she, without regret, learn how tobe someone different? Someone who didn't say the wrong thing, or flirted innocently with people? Aja sighed knowing full well that in her heart, she was who she was and that couldn't be changed. She left the drink unfinished, and she took one last look at her wedding rings sitting there in the firelight. Maybe, with the dawn, her mind would be able to figure it all out, for now, she'd be going to bed. Alone.
