It was a dark and stormy night. Heck, it was always dark and stormy. But what I am describing is not the weather outside, but the weather in Steve's mind.
Steve had been home most of the week, trying to recover. Recover from what though? He had no dueling injuries or other physical scars. The "rebellion" agianst/of Questrion was mainly over, although many challenges were still pending. So what was Steve so worried about? A good question, asked by himself a multitude of times during the day. Each time he almost stepped out to go to duel Thursday he would reconsider it, and step back inside.
Friday the Diamond Quest came. Steve dragged himself there, then acted as calm as he could, although when he was not dueling, he basically sat and stared. Heck, his duels were like that, except for the few seconds of real action every round. Losing twice to the same duelist made him really pissed, evem though he had won 3 other matches, and when he came home, all bruised up, he slept for a loooong time. Waking up Saturday night, Steve looked at
the time, and just fell back into sleep. The same thing Sunday night.
He woke up Monday night for his scheduled TDL duel. As he waited for a half hour for a caller to show up, his mind was slowly "boiling". It was not happy with the wait for such a trivial matter. As the duel finally started, he got a lead, then gave it back, then got a lead, gave it back, then proceeded to lose. He did the pleasentries before shuffling off home, grumbling all the way.
When he got there, he was not all too happy about anything at all. Although to many people the two minor incidents that had occured to him recently were just that, minor, one must remember that Steve's mind was not in full capacity. He quickly wrote a letter of retirement for the DoS, DoF, and resigned from the House Questrion Dueling Team. After he wrote them, he was surprised at how well the words came across on the page. Sending them off,
Steve went back into his bed and proceeded to sleep.....and sleep...
As he slept, Steve dreamed of his home. He had not seen it in a year, dating from the time he had inherited his family's fortune and decided to try to get excitement in his life, and set off for lands unknown. He remembered all the good times he had as a child. He saw all the open fields, the overhead sun beating down on the vast expanse of the plains, the cool, clear river cutting the landscape in two, and most of all, his parents. Dying when
he was very young, he never really got to know them. As he dreamed, he saw their faces again, but they quickly vanished, and Steve woke up...
((the dream actually takes place over a few days time, but for coherence Steve wakes up here. What happens when he finally awakes will be dealt with on the correct day. I doubt this retirement will be pernament, but I, the player, just need to take some time off, which I will do once I end the story.))
Steve's troubles, cont.
