Sunday Sunday Sunday! This past one, which was the 25th (of July, that would be), was an extra-special Sunday- two special events all wrapped into one!
First off, in recognition of Team Fist's accomplishments in beating the daylights out of the "real" swordfighters, the team awards were handed out. Saved for later were the Brutality Award (Janella Vallonia), Defensive Wizard (Bryan Helgraz), Miss Clutch (Jen Star), and Rookie of the Year (Huma Evilbane). Accepting the Leadership award was the captain, Goon; a hammer and nails went along with the Repairman award to Nova Grey Shadow; the MVP was
given to Tarl Cabot, who was the team's only ranking All-Star at season's end; and the award for Best Dueler Who Wasn't There went to Matt Simon, whose Holo-Glo achieved many a win for the team in his absence.
Next- the main event. As if it wasn't killer enough to have to fight off seven other people at once, we made these poor people have to work just to have the right to fight off seven other people! We are certainly evil in that way. But, so as not to overwork the referee, the fight-in duels were held 4 at a time instead of all 8 at once.
The first batch-
Chaos came charging with the first upset attempt of the night, while Matt Simon proved a bit rusty, just dodging and ducking to get the feel back. It almost cost him; 15 rounds from the start, he managed a quick throw for the fifth point to keep her from getting the same, escaping with a 5-4 win. Jaycynda Ashleana's war with Hunter Mano Calisto was much quicker, albeit finishing with the same score; she became the first (and, as it turned out,
only) female to make the final. The other two duels were relatively uneventful; Xerzes Maureen vanished from the premises, allowing Phantom a 2-round forfeit win, while Jesse Troyan made quick work of Sumgi Viotani, 5-1.
Then, the second batch-
Nova Grey Shadow.. didn't duel. His opponent, Koyliak VanDuran, was the only no-show at the tournament. (Jake Thrash, who was replaced by Jen Star, made an appearance; however, unable to stay for the entire event, he chose to step aside for the defending champion.) Able to sit back and relax, Nova watched Harris D'Artanian make surprisingly quick work of Yellow Opal holder Tarl Cabot, 5-1. Andrew Forcer laid a fairly impressive on Kheldar
Drasinia, while Jen Star took Avery Shiv Blade to the limit. Going almost to the length of Matt and Chaos' duel, Avery's snapkick barely kept him on his feet and on to the Mega Brawl itself. Despite the effort, Jen would have to sit back and watch someone else win her title.
And now.. the battle itself!
The tide of the battle started randomly. Unlike the previous brawl, where the factors of fear and/or respect led a team of brawlers to throw Jeff Oakenshield and Tarl Cabot out of the ring early on, the waves of punches and kicks were distributed fairly evenly. Andrew and Nova found themselves being pummelled a bit more, though, perhaps out of their element; that is, until some force transcended the Brawl and turned everyone against Matt. Thrown
and beaten for a good three minutes straight, it was a shock to see him even able to throw a punch. Perhaps seeing his condition put a bit of caution into Andrew's mind.. perhaps a lot, because he suddenly left the ring! Distracted, referee Goon was unable to catch the escaper and put him back into the ring, and thus the Brawl was down to seven.
So it continued for a bit longer, until everyone decided, if we can't get Andrew, we'll get the next best thing- his fiercest rival. And Harris could do nothing about it. Slammed and battered, he fought off what he could; that alone may have been the only reason he could stand afterwards. It was worth it, in a small way; surviving that allowed him to watch Matt get pulled over the top rope by Avery a few minutes later as the first true ejection of
the night. Unfortunately for him, if that was his motivation for battling, it didn't help to see it go; Nova quickly jumped on him with a spinkick against the ropes to send him tumbling out. And just as unfortunately for Nova, that left him wide open for a butt-kicking that led to him being Avery's second victim.
Following that was yet another unbelievable display of teamwork through the chaos of the Brawl. Even though both Matt and Harris were beaten silly earlier, there had been somebody not going after them; now, with only four remaining, there were no distractions. Jesse and Phantom both noticed they were the only ones left not moving with difficulty; instead of removing the other two and clearing the path for a one on one, they attacked each other
directly. While that might seem to favor Phantom, as being with Jesse alone would almost certainly spell defeat, those ideas were quickly smashed as quickly as his body when Jaycy and Avery both came after him as well. Even the mightiest fighter can't stand against three with skill; Phantom went from looking like a strong contender for the title to sitting on the outside faster than most spectators could realize it was happening.
Jaycy and Avery quickly realized that a healthy Jesse Troyan is a victorious Jesse Troyan, and took steps to change that. Did they ever succeed. In almost as much time as it took them to work Phantom out of the ring, the former Diamond was pinned against the ropes by the current Diamond and an injured tiger. But not out.. and the turning point came then.
Common strategy would say if you feel it necessary to dump Phantom from the ring quickly, it's necessary to get rid of Jesse even faster. But it was not to be. Perhaps it was reputation, maybe sheer luck, but Jaycy and Avery turned on each other instantly. Not doing tremendous damage in their weakened state, neither could muster the strength to be rid of the other and have Jesse all to themselves (if that's really a good thing). Fortunately for
the tiger, Avery's efforts left him off-balance; her paw-swipes took the advantage and sent him out in 3rd place. Fate smiled on her twice quickly; a kick to the face sent her out of the ring as well, but skidding through the ropes, not over the top. Goon was quick to put her back in the ring to continue, and the battle raged on.
Two hours of fighting culminated in the sight of a pair of weary warriors stalking each other in the square circle.. one would expect them to sit and take a break, for in their conditions, it was unlikely either could even fall out of the ring. After a quick sweep to keep the tiger at bay, Jesse sat back, as did she. Invigorated for a final assault, Jaycy awaited the charge.
It came, quickly, as she expected; leaping to pounce, though, she was surprised (probably- we're not sure how to tell if a tiger is surprised) by the uppercut that used her airborne state to change her direction easily and send her toppling onto the slow-to-react referee! Weary and wanting to leave, Jesse nearly forgot his trophy; it was a stroke of luck that Goon pulled it from its hiding spot a bit too hard and sent it flying into the champion's
hands.
And so the night ended, with a new champion of the Mega-Brawl (and every other damn thing he seems to enter)- Jesse Troyan!

::grins, reading the post:: Ah... it's good to get some respect when you're the best... ::pens a quick note::
Maybe next time you people won't forget *I'm* the frontrunner any and every time that I enter any kind of tournament, match, event, or anything else that involves kicking everybody's butt. Then again, mayboe you will and I'll just have to show you again.
Have a nice day.
