The End had Come by Two's. (Caedia)

The cabin was dark, which for the time was unusual for the wooden compartment and its mistress. The afforementioned mistress was lying in the darkness on the floor heaving for breath as the pain washed her over and over. The usual garb of shiny latex had been given up several weeks ago as her stomach had expanded somewhat frighteningly.. now that stomach was the source of her problem. The only thought on the silver
eyed one's mind was how much she hurt, and how alone she was.

Alone.. alone.. alone.

The word echoed in the cabin though no one spoke aloud and the wind outside seemed more fierce than ever. She cried out this time as a particular wave of terror mixed with white hot pain laced through her veins.

"Sade.." The voice was calming in the darkness of the night.. the voice was comforting in the aspect of company. She wasn't in any condition to register the surprise that he was in her home.. her sanctuary. How had he found her? If she hadn't been wracked with pain, she would have noticed the diamond that was still embedded in the tip of her left finger was glowing a bright red.

"Belzare.. help." Her own voice sounded alien and foreign to her, but somehow just the prospect of help was clearing her mind. When the now familiar leaf was offered towards her in the newest candle light, she opened her mouth without hesitation or question.

It was a bit later when the leaf took effect that she could sit up and gather in her surroundings. Gathering her dizzy mind, she peered at the grim faces that watched her in the myriad of candles. The old woman, Belzare's mother she recognized, was wringing out a wash cloth and gently dabbing Caedia's forehead.

"You're in great danger little one." His voice, albeit familiar, was now frightening as he spoke those words. She could feel the movement inside her stomach, she could feel the imminent danger that surrounded her, but she couldn't really grasp what was happening to her.

"Care to walk? You should exercise while you can, it will ease the pain." Caedia could only nod, the golden hair moving thickly as it was still wet and plastered to her cheeks.

The outside was windy but surprisingly crisp and cool. The air whipped about her legs and danced along her cheeks with the motherly touch of gentleness. The road before the two was washed with moonlight, giving view to the tons of leaves that littered the road. With the wind as brazen as it was, the leaves seemed not to rest on the ground, but instead created a river of leaves as if they weren't walking on the ground.. but a river of chiding
leaves. Constantly swaying constantly swelling about their legs, they walked in silence for a bit before the tall man beside her broke the silence.

"I should have warned you of the dangers of what you contained. I didn't know you would chose to wear the bracelet." she realized he meant the sapphire jeweled silver band on her arm that was still to this day cold even though she hadn't removed it since she put it on.

"What's happening to me Belzare?" For the first time since she was an eight year old thrust out to live on the streets with only her to protect herself, fear laced her voice. Her right hand absently and automatically reached up to rest against the swell of her belly.

He didn't answer for quite some time and instead paused to stare at the night sky as if that would give him the answers. When he started to explain, the night air grew colder and unforgiving and even Caedia felt like shrinking back.

"The two bracelets, SunStar and DeathStar, DeathStar being the one you are wearing.. when joined together the nature of the person holding them is brought out three fold. If the person is innocent and pure, then life shall prevail.. goodness will overcome the land and brillance will give way to a miracle. If evil stands there... well, death and destruction will occur."

This time both of her hands cradled her stomach.. feeling the moving within her as she shivered.

"Another balance to this, is that if two females hold the bracelets and come into fertility at the same time, a childe will be given unto them. One will hold the pure, the other.. evil. Unfortunantly.. the children can not be determined as to their nature until they are older.. so killing one would risk killing the opposite balance.. possibly our only salvation. The other problem is that we don't know who holds the other bracelet."

"I thought you had it.. for your family." Caedia's voice was growing stronger with each step.. she was absorbing this rather well he thought.

"I did. But I returned it to the temple where it belonged for safety knowing that you had the other. Somehow it was stolen again.. apparently it's now in the hands of another woman."

"But what if this is just a regular pregnancy?" She was groping for hope now.

"You would not already be in such pain nor growing as quickly as you are now." His statement was placcid.. simple and direct as he directed her gaze towards her own belly. It was indeed growing even as they spoke.

"Sade, I cannot lie to you, nor can I protect you any longer," he stopped this time and turned towards her, "you will not make it through the night. No matter if we were to cut the baby out now."

Silver eyes widened in horror at his declaration, but before she could answer she was passed out. When she woke next, she was back in her bed and the pain was fresh and new.. she screamed.

"It's time." His voice was so calm, the mother was even as calm as the eye of a hurricane as she positioned herself at Caedia's feet.

Time? Time? It was time for her to wish for passing out again. Pain wracked her body without mercy and no amount of gritting her teeth or clutching her fingers could ease what she was feeling. She pushed only out of self defense and for what seemed like forever.. she heard the tiny wail of a child. Relieved she dropped backwards onto the pillows and tried to relax. Unfortunantly she was still throbbing and tensing in her stomach.. another
cry out and she had to push again much to the surprise of her house guests.

They had just cut the umbilical cord to the first child when the mother started speaking feverently in their native tongue. Belzare looked up at the bewildered silvers as she strained.

"Twins." They would lose her faster than they imagined, and he could only hold on to the first child as his mother eased out the second.

With both children out and the first cleaned, the mother offered the first child to Caedia, a small girl with bright blue eyes and a clear face.

"You must feed her. If the baby is the divine then the mother's milk will give her strength over the worst of famines. With twins I'm afraid we must immediately seperate them. Together they are deadly. When the time is right, they will find each other again."

Caedia really didn't understand exactly what was being said, but she began to feed the little one with tears streaming down her cheeks. Who was the father? What was to become of the babies? Why hadn't she gotten a chance to say goodbye to her only family? She was exhausted, tired and in a lot of pain but somehow she managed to coo and pet the little one.

"Rhawn." She spoke the name very quietly, but Belzare heard even as he was helping clean up the other. When the other was sufficiently cleaned, the other was handed to her, this one a boy and she began to feed him as well.

"Iain." She could feel her spirit fading as exhaustion took over, "They're beautiful." She never thought she'd feel this way. Never thought she'd ever want to be a mother, but suddenly she wanted to hold on to the children and love them. She wanted to protect them with everything she could, but could only watch as Belzare's mother bundled the girl, her Rhawn, and then proceeded to take the fed Iain as well and bundle him.

"Tareth. Tell my brother I love him." Belzare nodded, he didn't know the man, but he'd find him somehow. He couldn't understand her acceptance of this.. nor her calmness. Perhaps she in a way had been preparing for death all her life, she seemed to have been ready since he had met her. She had a peace with death, one that he could feel. She had simply been waiting for this day.

"We'll be back to clean you up.. for what it's worth Sade, I'm sorry." Both of the grown ups had tears in their eyes as he fed her the last of the leaf for her pain. She could see the blood spattered about in her room.. the last time she'd see the cabin. They were leaving her to die in peace and taking her children to where they'd be safe.

Somewhere in the darkness after they had gone and the mother had at least dabbed Caedia's hot forehead with the rag, she felt an inner peace. Her muscles grew limp and lain on the makeshift bed/table, she passed into the bliss of darkness.
