I say this in Lucian's defense:

I haven't heard from him in four days and haven't gotten any helpful feedback on his whereabouts. Which is odd because we keep in touch every other day.

So before you start berating him about his inactivity, please try and get the whole story. It is my understanding that he took a two or three week vacation after the end of the Team Dueling League season. Quite understandable considering what his team went through in the playoffs. He's also accompanied me on a few Junior Dueling League matches as a guest for the kids.

So I'd say he is still a part of the community, even if he can't make the current dueling days.

As to 'returning' for the Baron's Tournament: Give me a break. There's no harm in entering a tournament after a time of inactivity in the duel of swords. It keeps the tournament a battle of intense skill, so long as each duelist gives it their all; which I have no doubt that Lucian did.

Should he lose the Second? Yeah, probably. Should his name and reign be tossed in the mud by some inactivity claim? Hell no.

Hmmm, oh yeah. Funny too... I saw him yesterday in the Arena. Oh yeah... He's been challenged, my bad.

Day before? Bah, he's ghosting on me again.

All I wanted to do was have dinner.

A bit of past info, when this happened during my challenge match, Rand (Darkness2) forfeited his ring, and me and G had to fight the senior baron for it. (At that time, Ajay)

::shrugs at all the fuss::

The first time I set date and time of defense as Shogun against Agrenish - Agrenish did not show up. I had given Agrenish much longer notice than Agrenish had given baron who challenged him earlier.

Was no problem. We simply re-schedule.

To win or lose on no-show rather than combat is not way of bushido.

I would rather lose fighting than win by iteki rules.

To everyone,

This is really interesting, this is a countless time this has happened this year. When I first challenged Damon back in January, he didn't show up..and neither did an official but I elected to wait for him myself rather than send this to the Council, pretty soon he returned and we set to rescheduling again. That's one of the reasons that I wished to wait until Gimzak returned to reschedule that match, but then the Council was brought into it,
something I didn't want to happen. The politics of this sport are starting to irk me..I see now if you request something, no one listens to you and they do what they damn well please, even though you are the one involved.

But I digress, from my standpoint..I think the honorable thing Deluthan should have done was to inform an official, in uniform or not, then mayhaps picked a reschedule date..that would have alloted Lucian time to return and explain and preemptied this whole Council thing, despite what they had to say about it.

As for Lucian's side, I think failing to respond warrants some kind of punishment, but that depends on the degree of why he was absent..the simplest choice would be a rescheduling, but I agree wholeheartedly that if the Second is stripped from the Baron, that the challenger should not get it, at least without fighting a Champion.

Just the standpoint of a two-time Council member, and two-time reciever of this situation.

The situation would seem to me to be rather simple. It will all depend on how well liked Lucian is by his fellow Barons. A few (I don't know which ones yet, though Avery and Simini seem to be making a good start) will probably try to do what they think is right and everyone else will decide whether or not they like him personally or support him politically. As opposed to checking the facts, thinking hard, and making a
serious decision as Simini and Avery have mentioned.
This is a fairly simple case, all one has to do is closely examine the facts and speak to both challenger and Baron. I also believe that this will probably not be done. If the Council operates true to form, most have already made their decision one way or the other.

Sidartha,

Your request is beyond unreasonable, which I believe is why it received no replies, however I feel you deserve at least a response, even if negative.

No matter the similiarity between situations, and these two aren't similiar in many ways, you cannot remove a pass judgement because a new judgement has been decreed on a separate case, albeit similiar.

We can all agree that Dalamar's punishment was so utterly minor it can barely be considered punishment at all. In fact, the challenger who did show up received harsher penalties. That is not the case in this match. I see no one berating Deluthan for arriving on time, and the chances of similiar events transpiring in the Council are minimal.

The situations differ, but even if they did not, your request could not be granted. This would undermine any power the Council possesses.

I fail to see how a "fair" Council would pass judgement without all of the facts at hand. That is not to say there will never be consequences for missing a Challenge match... there should always be *some* consequence... but to swing an axe at someone without knowing the reasons for their actions is wholly *un*fair. We haven't heard anything from Lucian yet regarding his whereabouts on the Ninth, and
until we do I think it would be irresponsible to pass final judgement.

What is the current obsession with "precedence"? Within the issue of missing a Challenge, every case is unique, and what has gone before should provide nothing more than a guideline to the current case.

The Rules state that a Council, if convened, has many options before them for consideration in each case. To make any action taken against a person that misses a Challenge an automatic response would essentially dissolve the stated purpose of the Baron's Council.

With regard,

Simply because someone does not duel every week does not make them inactive, Drey. I call attention to myself in the fact I do not duel every week, yet keep quite active in the community.

And it sickens me how you would accuse Lucian of such when he is not even here to defend himself. You have no idea why he missed his challenge match, yet you say he did it simply because he does not care. Disgusting.

>>You have no idea why he missed his challenge match, yet you say he did it simply because he does not care.<<

Much as it was disugsting when people said the same thing about Clutch after he failed to show for his challenge to Roland.
Rix is quite right. An effort should be made, in all such cases, to discover why someone misses such an important event. Lucian certainly deserves the benefit of the doubt until his reasons are heard out. After all, no one can decide the appropriate measures to take in any situation without having all the facts.
The tragedy is that the reasons behind a missed match have often been ignored or dismissed in the past when it is was politically convenient to do so.

It seems my name is becoming a bit more popular than I would have hoped in posts today. I'm still trying to figure out if they are good or bad.

Anyway. I don't think this situation can be fairly compared to Clutch's challenge, since Clutch actually showed up a few moments after the matter had been turned over to the council. Whether his reasoning was heard by the public at the same time as I myself heard that evening, I can't really recall.
