Magnus,
I am glad you have decided that you will compete in a best of three against myself. I respect your decision and will gladly still offer the match this way.

A small technicality...

No place in the rules is it actually said that a Challenger may refuse the "Best of Three" format, though it is implied.
It is also implied, however, that if the "Best of Three" format is not used, than the Test of Worthiness is used.
Interesting, is it not?

Madame Silvertree,

Tis more than implied in the rules of engagement that the challenge may refuse the Best of Three in that tis stated the Overlord may "offer" the Best of Three, thereby granting the right acceptance or refusal unto the challenger.

Nowhere ist it implied that should the challenge refuse the "Best of Three" that he will then face the "Test of Worthiness" though the so called "Test" may be chosen ast an 'alternative' should the Overlord nae wish to meet the challenger in a single combat. The rules of engagement merely point out that the Overlord may 'not' use the Best of Three in conjuction with the Test of Worthiness. Further, should the Overlord select a champion, tis fully
within the rights of the champion to refuse the Overlord's call to arms.

In short, the Overlord may choose to make the offer of Best of Three, which the challenger may refuse. The Overlord may select a champion to Test the challenger or the Overlord may choose to meet the challenger in a single test of arms.

Interesting, neh?

Lady Starfare.

Our arguement in this case is one of pure semantics. I was not in any way indicating that what I posted was fact... only that, by implication those were possible outcomes of a purely literal study of the Rules.
In general, I believe that the Rules are vague in many areas which have in the past and may in the future cause misunderstandings and errors... though I am not suggesting myself for undertaking such a task.

This isn't really implied at all. What is said is that it is the Overlord's choice whether to offer the best of three, call for a test, or fight the one match. What *is* implied is that the Best of Three is an alternative to the Test. It could even be considered another form of testing the challenger. The two are very definitely related, that much is implied. There isn't really, however, any implication (from my viewpoint) that one or the other
*has* to be used or even recommended.
Drake is right about one thing. The rules don't say, explicitly, that the choice of whether to fight a Best of Three or not is the challenger's. This has been something some Overlords have allowed, and others have continued the tradition. A tradition, while worthy of note and/or respect, is not the same as a rule.

Of all the new rules that have come since the inception of the Baron's Rank, there is only one I ever favored. And that is the Best of Three series option. I oftened wondered if I had been given a chance to do a best of three series if my name might be in the annals of past Overlords.

However, I shall stand by my belief if I ever did make Overlord I would reign like the Overlords of old, no Intercessions, one duel, winner takes all.

The date of the challenge match between myself, and Sir Magnus Eques shall take place Friday the twenty-seventh at nine o'clock by the eastern rising. It shall take place in the basement annex, and the official shall be the lovely Stormi.
