"Well said Var. A fine idea."

I hope you were being sarcastic, because I certainly was. Imposing that kind of penalty would be painfully stupid, but in either case, it would be more fitting to the situation compared to the previous use.

But the point I was trying to make is that Golden's decision was fair. While he can speak for himself, I am guessing he doesn't want Meth to have a ring, like anyone else. However, one's judgement should not be swayed so easily by emotions. Whose emotions are we to base the judgement on, if we were to do so? This is certainly not MY Duel of Swords Arena, it's not MY tradition, so why should I make judgement based solely on MY personal emotions
towards the person?

That's basically my point. If we made judgements on others because we are upset (and I know that there are people that are upset over the matter, me being one), then these halls would be overwhelmed in a negative way. That's something I definitely don't want, even if it means gritting my teeth and letting those whom I am upset with walk on. If only it were that easy all the time, though.

As the First Holder of the 8th Baron of Swords, I am completely distraught to learn of the news of it's distruction. This is perhaps the greatest stain of dishonor any title has received by a title holder. I recommend complete and unilaterral discommendation of Methous from all titles for enternity.

As the first and a former holder of the 8th I would submit my name to the possible choices of champion when it comes time for the offender to be tested.

Jeff, Morgan, whoever else...

I agree with all of you. Hell, if it were up to *me*, I'd vote for a public execution. That way, the vile stain that is his entire exsistance would be wiped out for good.

However, my point is not that I like the idea that Meth has a chance to be reinstated. My point is that I believe Golded did everything he can LEGALLY do. There is no legal precedence for permanently banishing a member of this community and as much as we hate the idea of him being a member, the moment he stepped into the Arena he was legally a member of this sport's community.

As Warlords, we can punish him beyond Golden's ability.

If you are a Warlord, do not duel Methous, and he will never challenge again.

I saw we go for a universal discommendation of Methous and no one duel him.

For reference to those interested, I have written to the baron's council concerning the baronial rings.

~~~~~~~
To the Council of Barons,
We are all aware of the fact that we shall not be wearing our baronial rings forever. I would like to do something so to ensure that the ring is always safe, even when not on my finger. With the current position on Methous destroying the ring, I am proposing that each ring be empowered with a ward which prevents them from future destruction.
If the higher members of the staff do not wish in taking responsibility in imposing a ward on the rings, then I shall research and perform the spell myself (with their permission). If, however, they would like to summon a ward for the rings themselves, then I will send the responsible person the ring so they may cast the spell post haste.
If you want to question my motives, then I'll be very simple; I don't want another situation like the one concerning Meth, ever again. Thank you.
Simply,
Var Medici-Giovanni
I would simply rather that the higher authorities take responsibility in this matter to protect the rings. If not, then like I said, I will try to do what I can to protect the ring, but I will not tamper with it in any way unless I have permission from Golden, Turi, or Drake.
Also, because the ring belongs to the community, and we are all a part of it, I am wondering who else would like to make sure the baronial rings' place is safe and secure from further destruction.
Personally, I don't want another situation like we've had to endure with Methous here. I want to know at least the tenth ring is safe when it leaves my finger, for I never know who will challenge me next.
But as of now, I await to hear input from one of the higher officials to see if they are going to do this themself.
Good sir, Var,
Is magic really the answer?
Is one man attempting to destroy a symbol a call to lose faith and not trust all those who may hold a ring?
More magic isn't the answer.
I believe more faith would better serve the arena.
Cygnet,
Perhaps the arena has had faith that nobody would break the rings before.
Did you have faith that nobody would go so far as to crush the ring? I know I sure did. My faith in that was crushed the moment the Eighth ring faced that fate.
But after what's transpired, a revelation has struck me... Anyone who recognizes and cares about the faith we put in the safety of the ring's existence isn't someone who would even crush the ring in the first place. There are some, however, who don't care.
Shall we sit around and wait for it to happen again? No thanks. There lives some people who would happily exploit any weaknesses for the sake of fun or future gain. Now that people realize the rings can be destroyed, then there can emerge many more throughout the realm who will flaunt their power as well. Call it paranoia, but it's also something about the nature of some people.
To put it in more simple terms... the way things are didn't just appear this way in the snap of a finger; it escalated to this point because people just learned to use their power in the wrong ways, building up a trend of wrongdoing.
Honor is as honor does. Honor doesn't win you the title, the skill of the blade does. The only criteria to become a title holder of this sport is skill with a weapon, all else is fluff of popular opinion.
Faith? I believe in making something happen. And I -mean- making something happen. If you just believe in faith and just sit there and vegetate waiting for some miracle to erupt, times up and you just aren't cut out to be a believer, but more so, a potatoe.
Honor. Honor should come along with ease as long as you know how to define it for yourself. Meaning, you shouldn't have to worry about the fact you are honorable, but the fact that you appear honorable to yourself. Honor comes with respect and respect comes with dignity. Without any of those, you don't qualify for honor nor any of my standards.
I base myself on the sole reason of pride. Pride that gains me confidence and the pride that inherits dignity. When I can manage pride for me, then I can manage more for others.
It's why I need to stay on my toes.
