How many hours do you work on your metaphors, Morgan?
Sounds pretty odd that people are stupid because they choose to be loyal to an overlord who offers no protection. I'm loyal to Magnus because he's my friend, and I have no desire to use him. Maybe using people to keep your own status is your way of thinking, but I don't treat my friends that way. I no longer treat them like a friend once they have done something to start it.
There's only one thing I can lose in the challenge, and that's the ring. If I lose it, then I'll continue dueling my heart out so I can challenge for it again. If I win, then I can be assured that I defended the ring without imposing on someone else to do it for me.
If that makes me stupid, then may my lack of "strategical genius" continue.

I have read all the posts here fairly thoroughly. Magnus is saying what he believes, what he considers his personal code of honor in regards to the sport. You are using false analogies to warfare and government to make your arguments. Your stance would seem to be, from everything you have written, that the 'intelligent' thing to do is to use any means necessary to cling to a title.
To use the same analogy to warfare that you are using, that makes the 'intelligent' thing to do when challenging the same. Use any means necessary and available to take a title. The ends justify the means, regardless of the means.
You are showing, as you do consistently, the pettiness and the bankruptcy of your character by your arguments and the hypocrisy you so like to accuse everyone else of and never stop showing yourself. Magnus has a recognizeable code of conduct and follows it consistently. He stands up for what he thinks right even when it is easier to cave in to pressure from others. That is generally referred to as showing the courage of his convictions.
I don't agree with everything Magnus says. Neither do I disagree with everything you say. However, Magnus is behaving in a manner which inspires by respect. You are behaving, to use your own words, in a petulant and ranting manner which inspires amusement at best.

If someone was able to die, I would help my friends. But this is a sport, and I would much rather see them participate instead of me dueling for them.

The real reason for competition is to test and improve one's self. Some may wish to prove they are better than others. This, however, is not the purpose of sport. The purpose of sport is self-improvement, enjoyment, and comradeship. One strives with one's self, one takes pleasure in the striving and the action of the sport, and one makes friends within it. There is even, to a degree, occasionally a sort of bond formed between rivals or even enemies.
Those who simply want to win are missing the most important aspect of the sport, and are missing most of the fun as well. I believe, however, that there are a great many here who do understand the true tests and pleasures of competition.
How, pray tell, does one test himself or improve himself by letting other people fight his battles for him?

When Cristian took the title, everyone was busy either attacking or defending his record. They figured they had something to use that worked, so they stuck to it.
I would be more interested, since I was away when it happened, in learning reactions at large when Feadur, as Overlord, declared all the Barons Renegade en masse. That isn't quite the same situation, but it demonstrates some of the same motives.

If the challenger wins, he has obviously the skill needed in the sport, as he did overcome a title holder.
And besides, if I did change my stances, which will never happen, I would have no Loyals to step in for. Therefore, I would only have the test, and that would be for self-gain, which you seem to be against.
Pity I shall not be a tale that the wandering bards sing. But, that is not why I became Overlord anyway. If that was the reason, that would be again self-gain. So...if I did care for nothing but my own glory, do you not think I would test everyone so I could hold onto the title?
