Drakewyn, why are you trying to change the subject?

Putting you back on track, this is about G'nort retiring after he was challenged by K'yorl and how the matter will be resolved.

If you would like to talk about something else, begin a new topic separate from this one.

"Did you feel the same when Midnight Blue retired the 8th Ring while
under challenge by Elijah? Or was that before your time here?"

And now we have the Standings Keeper lobbing volleys at patrons for no discernible reason whatsoever, except perhaps to accuse someone of hypocrisy in the hopes that it might stick, or simply to show that she's adept at the "blindly defending one's friends even when they're completely wrong" tactic.

"It's my understanding, from talking to people who were there, that many were actually pleased with her decision, and even more pleased that Elijah wasn't even given the option to face a Champion for the Ring."

Oh, please do tell who you spoke with. The potential list is rather short.

We can exclude one name, as you've never discussed the matter with me; I happen to feel that this was one of the very rare instances among Elijah's litany of "pity me, I'm abused and trodden upon" episodes where he was actually one hundred percent justified in feeling that way. And I know I'm not even close to the only one who was around then that has the same opinion.

Not having had the opportunity to speak to G'nort on this, I'll refrain from in-depth comment, and leave it at "I'm sorely disappointed." However, I can also state unequivically that Drakewyn's pathetic attempt to deflect the discussion ranks among the more asinine things I've ever seen.

After all, what "many" thought some 30-odd cycles (or more) ago is absolutely irrelevant to what Morgana le Fay du Cornwall thinks now, and Lady SIlvertree's question is tantamount to an accusation of hypocrisy without the slightest shred of evidence, much less proof.

Some jurisdictions also refer to that sort of thing as slander.

Regards,
Ian Rex.

This is merely a idea/suggestion here. I'm not entirely sure how far off the warlords tourney is. Has to be well over a month.....that seems about right. Normally the a vacant ring is given away at the warlords tourney along with the shot at the overlord. In a small twist why not have the warlord from the tourney duel K'yorl for the barony ring, winner takes the ring. I realize this is a bit of a
ways off, but it kinda mends together past rules and ideas of championing the ring, and the warlord tourney. This is just merely a idea since it seemed the council was very seperated on the issue.

To the Duel of Swords community,
With the voting amongst the barons closed, it has been decided that Baron Galin Taelca shall champion against K'yorl for the right to wear the Ninth Baronial ring.
Congratulations, Galin!

leFay.

I am not trying to change the subject. I am asking you how you felt about a situation that, on the surface, appears to be identical.
A Warlord who is not very popular, Elijah/K'yorl, challenges a Baron, Blue/G'nort, who is popular. The Baron retires the Ring instead of dueling the challenge.
Quite a valid question, given your choice of terms in giving your opinion of this situation.

Laird MacKenzie.

You have leapt to a conclusion. First, do you know G'nort's full reasons for retiring? Having spoken with him on this subject, I do... therefore any defence I do make is not "blind." Second, can you show where I was defending his decision? I can recall no single instance of stating that I agree or disagree with his decision. Such might be considered to be implied, but that requires certain assumptions to be made.
Kindly avoid making such assumptions. I am no longer the person you once knew. Just as you are obviously not the person I thought I knew.

"Laird MacKenzie.

You have leapt to a conclusion."

And you have leapt right off the cliff into stupidity. I hear it's a long fall, and it hurts when you hit bottom.

"First, do you know G'nort's full reasons for retiring?"

If you weren't an illiterate moron, you'd know the answer to that; it's right in the post you're responding to. If, indeed, you are not an illiterate moron, then I can only take this as further proof that you don't bother to read what is being written, by anyone; you merely run off at the mouth, as it were, to make yourself feel as though you have something of importance to say. Oddly, that strikes me as a greater fault than being an
illiterate moron...

"Having spoken with him on this subject, I do... therefore any defence I do make is not "blind.'"

Bully for you. As long as G'nort doesn't deign to share with this community his reason for abandoning his responsibilities in the midst of a challenge process, I'm afraid you're going to have to accept that his decision is going to be savaged. Your attempt to divert the discussion by demanding an opinion on something that you weren't around to witness is nothing more than a diversionary tactic.

Let me reiterate: what Lady le Fay thought thirty or more cycles ago is so irrelevant to this situation as to be laughable. It certainly seems as though you're so full of your own belief that you had some deep involvement in this community from the very day you set foot in this arena that apparently it escapes you: it's entirely possible Lady le Fay didn't give one dead rat's tail about Elijah's challenge to Blue at the time it occurred, and
therefore had no opinion one way or another. (I don't intend to speak for the Lady, but knowing her somewhat at the time, I'd strongly suspect this is the case. For some time after she arrived here, her motivations had nothing to do with the politics of the arena.)

Of course, going back to G'nort's abdication of responsibility in this matter, it's not a deep stretch to gather that responsibility to this community isn't exactly the foremost item on your agenda, anyway. I'll state upfront that, while G'nort is indeed my friend, and a trusted associate, for me to defend his actions here would require a very, very good reason. That reason wouldn't have one single thing to do with his challenger, either. Unlike
some of the spineless jellyfish in this community, I'm not so afraid of alienating my friends that I simply ignore their mistakes; as you so adequately demonstrated by leaping to your paranoid conclusions when I dared do so to you, my real friends also understand, accept, and appreciate this trait.

"Second, can you show where I was defending his decision?"

The only logical - logical, mind you, though I'm not in the least agreeing that it's even remotely sensible - reason for you to challenge Morgan's opinion on things that you weren't even a witness to is in order to taint her own opinion. That opinion was against G'nort, and regardless of what you'd like the community to believe, nobody is stupid enough to believe that your intent was anything other than to defend G'nort by impugning the person who
spoke out against him.

Further, Drakewyn, as you are so anally motivated to stick to the letter of your own words, I'll note that I never said you were defending his decision. I said you were defending him.

Though... wait. That's not entirely true either, is it? I said:

"And now we have the Standings Keeper lobbing volleys at patrons for no discernible reason whatsoever, except perhaps to accuse someone of hypocrisy in the hopes that it might stick, or simply to show that she's adept at the 'blindly defending one's friends even when they're completely wrong' tactic."

It's a shame that you don't grasp the language enough to understand why the above comment does not equate to me stating that you are defending G'nort's decision, defending G'nort blindly, or even defending him period. The comment was a pointer to my often-made remarks regarding the tactics of those who immediately place their friendships above what is right and wrong. (For the counter-point to my feelings on this matter, I direct you to the
honorable Jeffrey Oakenshield and Var Medici-Giovanni, who have often argued the opposite position.)

It's not exactly rocket science, Drakewyn, to understand the connection between you automatically equating public criticism by a friend to being stabbed in the back, and you speaking in your friend's defense. Frankly, were I G'nort, I'd be disgusted that you're pretending not to be attempting his defense when it's so glaringly obvious to the rest of us. Your spine certainly stiffens when it comes time to apologize for being wrong; I don't see why
it's so soggy when it comes to admitting you're trying to defend one of the few people you haven't completely disgusted.

At any rate, if you expect people to hang on the exact letter of your own ramblings, then you had damned well better do the same in regard to their own, hadn't you? Hypocrite.

"Kindly avoid making such assumptions."

I didn't. Kindly avoid sticking your foot in your mouth.

"I am no longer the person you once knew."

That much is apparent. If you were, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

"Just as you are obviously not the person I thought I knew."

If the person you thought you knew is one who places a lesser value on honesty, integrity, and principles than on friendship, I suppose you're right about that.

Ironically, Drakewyn, one of the things I remember you once saying you appreciated about me is that I say what needs to be said. Funny how you apparently don't like that particular trait once something needs to be said about you.

Finally... when you remember how to read more than one sentence of a comment, feel free to respond. If you're going to again display that you're so hot-headed that you can't even bother to digest the entire meaning of what is being said to you, please, don't bother. I grow tired of you continuing to make yourself look foolish, as for good or ill, it reflects badly on me.

Ian Rex.

Seems I gotta declare my reasons for retiring the ring for everyone. Fine.

I didn't want to duel. Not during regular hours, not a challenge, and I certainly wouldn't have cared in my challenge match. Therefore, the match would not have been fought to it's potential.

The rings should be defended by those who care, and therefore, I had no right to attempt to defend it.

As it stands now, I don't care about the Arena, or the Duels. So, I don't have a right to hold the title of Baron. So, I did what anyone with any self respect would have done and let someone who Does care about the Arena defend it.

Whether you like the reason, or you don't like the reason, I don't care. You're going to have to live with it because it's the truth, and the only reason you're going to get.

Good day.

Actually, G'nort, I can accept this -- but I do have to ask... were you already intending to retire before you were challenged?

It had been building for some time. And when I was challenged, and I realized that I just didn't want to duel anymore, I decided that the Challenge would be my last one. If I won, I would retire the ring shortly thereafter. If I lost, I'd have retired a week or two later.(Reasoning there being I didn't want K'yorl making claim that he was the one to knock me out of the Arena. Total selfishness there.)

Then, I decided that I just didn't want to duel, and was going to allow Avery to intercede, as he had requested to do so for a Loyal Baron. But after a while, I didn't want to even schedule. So I did what I was planning to do anyway, just a bit earlier.

I retired and am allowing someone who does care about the ring defend it.

Madame Silvertree,

Since thee were nae at that time a member of the community, perhaps Madame, thee were unaware that when the Lady Blue didst offer challenge unto the then Baron Elijah, he was most wroth. Further he didst make attempt to hae th' match declared forfeit unto him when he made public claim th' th' Lady wast late that eve. The fact, Madame, wast th' Elijah misrepresented th' time th' ta Lady wast ta appear ta th' Official. Th' Lady Blue arrived on time,
an' in time to prevent Elijah from havin' 'er declared forfeit. The Lady then didst defeat Elijah, whereupon he displayed his usual behavior.

When the Lady Blue wast then challenged by Elijah in an attempt to regain both his ring an' 'is honor, he didst, ast oft ast possible, cast scurrilous slanders upon th' Lady Blue's good name. Hae th' Lady nae retired, Madame Silvertree, Siera 'o Redwin hae announced most publicly th' she wouldst stand against ta warlord, Elijah ast champion fer 'er loyal Baroness.

The warlord Elijah didst nigh almost nightly cast aspersions an' deadly insult unto both th' Lady Blue an' th' Overlord Siera 'o Redwin. Most notable, 'owe'er, wast 'e didst eschew speakin' out so stridently were either Feadur Feamegil or ta Bishop, Fandral Kurgan, ta be present.

Also, Madame, at that time, if memory serves, th' Council 'o Barons nae held sway, therefore there couldna hae been anna champion named ta match blades wi' Elijah bt ta Council. The warlord Elijah didst howe'er hae 'is bona fides returned unta him.

Ian,

Thee may be assured th' Madame Silvertree made nae inquiry 'o me either 'o th' happenin's an' circumstances surroundin' th' challenge 'o Elijah unta th' Lady Blue. Indeed, there be verra few yet extant in ta realms wh' didst attend th' eve.

Ast ta mine feelin's at Elijah's bein' denied ta opportunity ta face ta Lady Blue, res' assured Ah wouldst hae much preferred th' 'e be cut down by Bane. Yet know thee, Ian, t'was Elijah didst express wh' canst only be called relief upon learnin' th' 'e wouldnae hae ta stand agin th' gran' Siera, an' didst castigate ta Lady Blue mos' heinously for 'er choice e'en long afterward, whilst continuin' 'is insults unta Siera.

Methin's e'en thee, Ian, wouldst perchance hae come ta th' limits 'o yuir patience wi' 'im, hae 'e dared exhibit before yuir eyes an' within' yuir 'earin' ta stridency wi' which 'e didst lay inta both Siera an' ta Lady Blue.

Cordially,
