Ethan was a dueler of some irregularity in the Outback, the RhyDin dojo he ofttimes visited. His name had fallen off the standings more times than he could count because he always lost duels rather then win them. He loved mixing it up in the ring as much as anyone who managed to remain on the standings. The fighting was exhilarating, the bloody bruises he suffered when he fought titillating. He made the occasional
trip from his home near the Vale of Tears where the pre-formed, faux Camelot castle rested. The castle he hospitably shared yet with Robert "Tex" Braxxx. That one time Employer of the Fists fighting crowd had been going back periodically and the dying coals of Ethan's interest in the Fists crowd had been stirred by this almost unremarkable event.

He took a day trip, so as to avoid running into anyone. Most of the dueling crowd's patrons came 'round at night. He noted the missing bar, the general haggard look of the place and strolled over to the large cord board that stood freely in the dojo. It always contained messages of interest, if not that, then certainly amusement and it had been some months since he'd read them for his enjoyment.

Perusing the messages, he came across one about a month old (covered nearly to the point of being obliterated by the responses it had generated) which was from a dueler requesting help from other duelers. He laughed softly at the concept that those who fought here would put themselves out to help another until that person had been pounded in the ring some and had won the respect of the others around him that would give him the status of "one who was
worthy to learn." It had been some time since anyone had "set up shop." In fact, Ethan recalled flyers on the very cork board he stood before which boasted schools of learning begun by some of the Duel of Fists more prolific Emeralds. Those Emeralds had long since left the sport by one route or another. Someone might find scraps of the very papers still tacked to the board by old staples or faded pushpins if they looked hard enough.

It had been a rare thing for a mentor in the Fists to succeed for long. Leave it to his own old friend Walker to toss out his two pence and get back one hundred fold. Students learned just how easy it was to catch on to the rules here and quickly thought themselves better than their teachers. Or they as quickly would lose interest and move on to the more quixotic Swords, or the more venial duel of Magic.

Ethan had learned from those he considered the best, but even their quick hands and ready wits had not elevated his sword arm to a punching arm with any great measure of transcendence over the mediocre. The very idea of requesting such assistance was treacly at best, but Ethan had a perverse sense of humor and so, on a piece of his personal stationery retrieved from his pocket, he scribbled a note to the fellow who had requested the help in the
first place.

"My Dear Dallas,

I'm no one of consequence, but should you ever find me in the Outback, approach me and I'll be happy to lend my poor body to your Fists education. The Almighty knows it's been brutalized before enough to know it's place.

In all Sincerity,
Ethan L. Swan"

He drove home a robin's egg blue push pin -- the choice of which had been quite arbitrary but pleased him nonetheless. He took a turn about the room again, pausing to mourn the foolishness of the willful destruction of the bar, then left, to find a drink and a table and a lady or two of interest.

On the matter of this Outback, its duels, and those who arrive fresh to our sport seeking orientation, particularly the bloody doubts related to perceived ignorance, on the Outback's part, of one new duelist called "Dallas" -

I had seen his post on the wall requesting aid two nights before I met him here, and I know that Dallas will recall our introduction.

It is not my way to scrawl welcomes on this infamous wall, or to make notices of bloody invitation, but don't dare assume that I, or that most of us here, won't make proper gestures in person, especially to strangers who arrive at this home of Fists.

If you stumble, drunk, into the Outback while I am present, and call, shout, wave and yell for a match without the least, even smallest measure of control, you will be chastised for it. If you raise a sign, painting yourself like some bloody fool in a market, you will be told to take it down. And, if you put yourself before us with even half a spoonful of desire for a fair fight, with a tolerable level of maturity, you WILL be acknowledged, and
perhaps even welcomed into this establishment of dueling.

You will be shown the ways of the Duel of Fists rings.

And, another thing for those of you who have the bloody gall to spew and sling such a crude comparison as to name this place as a second Arena, you've got your stinking nerve. Come to me, face to face, and I'll tell you exactly why THESE beaten, worn walls are a thousand and ten times better than that packed hole. I've walked both lines, and I'll eagerly cut your warped perceptions to filmy ribbons.

This is the Outback. This is Duel of Fists. You want a fight? Let's have at it. You want proclamations, bravado, pissing contests and high-strung words bandied about like some cheap dame's panties, you can take your bloody self elsewhere.

This ISN'T the Arena, and this isn't your damn mother's hen party.

I can be found here, every Wednesday night, from eleven till two of the hour.

Your perception of the Arena old girl is most likely colored by your failed experience there. I'm glad you've found something that fits your....temperment better lass. Mayhaps one day I will come here and amuse myself by letting you finally administer that terrible beating you once promised me so long ago in the Arena, but always fell so sadly short of.

Janella left her reply after reading Uziel's words.

My *perception* of the Arena stems simply from my time there, Uziel.

The only failure therein was, alas, yours, in never showing yourself as a man. Indeed, you have apparently bred, but perhaps you have only succeeded in pushing your name along. I doubt that any seed of yours can swim.

As far as you coming here to amuse yourself, Uziel, don't you already have enough fun at home by yourself?

By all means, smile your way on over here, and fight, instead of playing with your little sword and pen.

Janella,

The arena is wonderful and so is the outback. I've dueled in all of them. I'm just getting started in the outback. But for thing, Uziel (Adonai) Is very well known in the arena. Simply because he happens to be a truthful, Er, sometimes honorable man. Now, I am NOT always honorable. We're all not perfect. For one thing though, I have learned about Adonai, he is straight forward, he will NOT hide any secrets. I know for a fact that he is a nice
man and just don't get on his bad side. He has many friends and a wonderful record for dueling about 2 a week. Me, I think the Arena is twice the place the outback is. But you and a lot of others may feel the opposite of that. Many may feel a mutual feeling. Opinions are our right, so shut it.

Excuse me, Jake Heart, but I care little for what I've seen from you.

I recall Uziel's first appearances in the Arena, and I didn't like him then, either.

I find your admissions about opinions and your rights to them rather amusing, particularly in light of you advising me to "shut" mine.

I appreciate your remarks about as much as I appreciate the perpetual piles of horse dung in the ruts along the Rhydin road. Those and you together should be shoveled up and carted off.

Guess what Jake, the arena probably likes you a hell of a lot more than we do, too. My point? Get your worthless self out of the Outback and off the Fists boards if you think the Arena is so much better. I'd spend my time showing you why you're a pea-brained moron for thinking that, but if I convinced you and ended up with having to deal with your mindless drivel in the Outback all the time, I'd go nuts and might end up as stupid as you. Have a
nice day, loser.

Janella,

Excuse me, but first appearances don't show much. People happen to learn. It's called adapting to a new enviroment.

Jesse,

You're a disgrace to all the duels. Fists, magic, swords, whatever. For all we care, you could drop dead. I figured i'd address that. People choke hearing your name. Especially when it's put together with honorable. Doesn't mix well. I happen to like the outback also. I just simply stated, that I liked the swords better. I may begin to like the outback later on, better. But, that's in the future, we will see. Until then,

Jake,

I think ya misinterperated a couple of things... First of all, Janella has earned a great deal of respect in the Outback not only be me, but of many of the top duelers and other duelists. If you have something to say about her, you confront us all. I'm not picking up on this little quarel, I'm just giving you a couple of the facts.
Another thing is that Jesse is one of the most honorable duelers I've ever met. You may not like his attitude or what he thinks of you, but he's got a conscious and it's a damn good one... He'll fight whatever way you want to fight, just as long as he fights. He's earned his respect in here by his defeats. That's how you do it in the Outback.

You good = Respect
You nice = Respect
You damn smart = Respect

If you have just one of those things, people respect you. If you have all of them, you're worth more than any jewel can give you.

R-e-s-p-e-c-t
You found out what it meant to me..

Respectfully,

Andrew,
I haven't seen the respect yet. Nor will it ever come. Respect doesn't come from winning duels. It all comes from your heart and mind. Winning doesn't do anything. I certainly do not respect him. When Jesse loses, he hides his outburst of a bad sportsman by running out into the night, whining about it. I've beaten him, he ran away, Harris beat him, he ran away. Isn't there a pattern? I don't see how you can respect him. He is afraid of losing.
Losing his confidence, losing his skill in the rings, losing. Now, I realize, he is one of the best out there. A damn good duelist, but he is NOT one to be respected. In all places, you earn respect by your acts, not your winnings. If that's how you earn respect, there must be a catch to it, because I'm certainly blind to that.
This Janella thing, I was simply saying that Adonai was a very honorable man. I NEVER said that Janella was disrespectful and dishonorable. If I did, please correct me.

As a side note: I realize I am not very honorable myself. Atleast I admit it.

Moron,

<<Respect doesn't come from winning duels. It all comes from your heart and mind.>>
I see you've been reading Hallmark cards again. You have the IQ of a peanut and nothing worth saying, so don't bother spouting out ridiculous vague phrases that mean nothing.

<<When Jesse loses, he hides his outburst of a bad sportsman by running out into the night, whining about it. I've beaten him, he ran away, Harris beat him, he ran away.>>
Lying will get you nowhere, half-pint. I know you're stupid, but are you so stupid to believe that if somebody has to leave after they duel that it means they're running from a loss if they lose? I've left right after winning before, too. That make me somebody who runs from victories? Face it, loser, you're an idiot. You write like a three year old. You think like a mentally deficient two year old. And you have the personality of a chair. I see how
these absolute truths must make you a bitter person, but why don't you just get over it.

<< In all places, you earn respect by your acts, not your winnings.>>
You don't know jack about respect. Apparently, and this may be a big shock to your non-existent brain, there are people out there who respect me. So maybe, no surprise here, you just don't understand the first thing about how somebody earns respect. After all, you've never earned any. Go home, get a life, play with the other little brats. You'll enjoy yourself more, and we'll all be happier since you'll be gone.

In conclusion, I would like to sum up my post by stating the main point of my argument: You Suck.

Have a nice day, loser.

Andrew,
How can you respect someone who talks to people like this on a normal basis? I can respect his skill at times but I will never respect him as a person.

Exactly, Fala.

I can sit here and watch Jesse make a total fool of himself. All he is doing, is showing what kind of man he is. And yes, he does run from his losses. I've seen it, he pouts. God damn it - Then he leaves. Ha, something is weird. I've never seen him lose a duel without running into the night. I've seen him stay after wins and such, but not losses. Can you actually be blinded by a mans WoL's, to be oblivious to his true actions? I don't see
it. If Jesse replies to all my posts, let him. He'll just bury himself deeper into the pit of criticism. Good luck, Jesse, may you dig yourself deeper everyday. Good day,

Fala,

I never said I respected him because of how he acts. And if you got that point, then disregard any statements I made about him because you're not getting the point that I'm making. I said that he is an honorable dueler. Then as you look back I said he's got a conscious and it's a damn good one. Well it is. You ask Jesse if you want to fight straight. No complaints there.. Although he's an ignorant person, he's a fine dueler. I'm not
complaining, though. Just as long as I see him lose a couple in the rings ever so often.

Jake, you haven't been here long enough to see how Jesse acts after a duel. I've beat him and he shrugs it off and goes on to fight again. He's not up for all that friendliness, but he sure is up for fighting, and he does it well.

I've seen it ehough Andrew. Approximately 50 times is plenty.

By the way, Jesse,
That "IQ" crap is getting pretty corny and choice of words. It's really old just like you. Keep talking, the more corny and the more, YOUR IQ drops a level, pretty soon, it'll be a puddle of your greasy *little* brain. I'll be the first one there to step on it. Have a great day,
